Is $500 too much on birthday gifts?
That depends how much money she has and if she makes you work once in a while for what you have. Its okay to spoil your kids once in a while if you also discipline them and make them work hard for what they want at other times. If your parents make less than $1 000 000 dollars a year, then I think that is too much money for a birthday gift. (I have millionaires in my family who can afford this type of gift)

it's a large birthday gift, but when you buy someone an Xbox, it would be sort of stupid not to get them a game with it. Combined with the other stuff, I think that it is pretty sensible if your mom can afford it. And if you are really unsure, maybe you can pay for the game or something

Not at all, if I had a son and he was a good boy and he deserved it, I would gladly spend that much on him - Just so that he doesn't grow up to be resentful and want what the other boys have.
I was spoiled too and I had everything I ever wanted. I grew up to be responsible.

Anything over $100 then you should earn them yourselves. You are under age so ask mom to give you tasks and pay you if she thinks you deserve it.
Most stuff over $100 tend to be overpriced or you don't actually need it.
Spending your own money makes you do serious research so you don't spend your hard earned cash on stupid stuff.

I personally don't like birthday gifts. I don't want to receive them, and I don't give them. If I want something, I'll save up and buy it for myself.

At any age yes it is I sometimes get that amount spent at Christmas and that's it. I think for a big birthday like 21 people would get that spent on them but I didn't it's not as big in the uk tho.
