It had to do with the order of titles. King was technically higher than Queen, because the wife of the King would become a Queen, but the husband of a Queen would NOT become a King. In cards, since there is both a King and a Queen, it can be understood that the Queen is the wife of the King, and therefore not the actual sovereign. Queen Elizabeth II's husband, for example, isn't the King, he is just Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Granted, this may be too in-depth of an explanation for a question about a deck of cards, but if you are genuinely curious, that would be the reason.
create your own game of cards in which queens are more powerful than kings if you are so much bothered by this... that being said, historically, queens only ruled if the king died and the son was still a kid (regencies.. though I'm not sure if that's the right word in english), or in case she was direct heir to the throne (assuming that inheritance laws allowed it)
Is this going to be a sexist thing?
'Cause... it has to do with how the monarchy works. That's what it's based on. That's all.
Well like if you think about it, a king can bring a queen to the thrown but a queen can't bring a king to the thrown
I think the Ace should be the higher card (I think it is) and the King and Queen should be equal.

because historically kings have held all the power. If you play chess you will see that the queen has all the real power and that the king is week and needs to be protected.
Cause men are stronger than women. So the card is stronger. Anyway the cards were made a long time ago before gender equality. But there's no reason for queens to be higher than kings anyway, at best they should be equal, but that's just political correctness ruining almost all card games
Because in most monarch systems historically that allowed a queen to take the throne that was only allowed when there were no male heirs.
Kings historically had more power than Queens so it only makes sense to give their card more value than that of the Queen.
Why should it be the opposite? Kings back then were held in higher power than Queens.
Generally the king has all the power and the queen is second in power (if anything goes wrong)
How sexist. i am truly, truly, truly, truly truly, truly, truly, truly appalled by this.
kings ruled, queens didn't... in chess it's differnt, but meh, i dunno lol
Not the case in chess
No because the queens are girls
Yeah, I agree :D
I like the queens!
