Or only women do this? Or only me? o.0
Do you guys listen to sad songs when going through a break up or anything the like?
Or only women do this? Or only me? o.0
Well I know that I've never cried for a song (or a movie or book or anything, for that matter). Some songs (as well as movies and books and all that) do make me sad, though.
And I think I listen to sad songs when I'm sad but I don't really pay attention. I could be feeling normal but I just feel like listening to sad songs that day or listening to upbeat songs. It's just whatever I feel like I guess.
Mostly the songs that make me sad are ones that I can relate to in a bad way or that have a sad story to them. Here's a few:
Walk a Little Straighter, Daddy...Billy Currington
Oh Mother...Christina Aguilera
The One That Got Away...Katy Perry
Lover Dearest...Marianas Trench
Terrible Things...Mayday Parade
Lullaby...Nickelback
Who Knew...P!nk
Hi there, cute question lol. I actually remember when I went through a few break ups before I got married that Cher, Do You Believe In the Power of Love got me through, I would listen to it while on my treadmill lol. God Bless
lol actually that is the song I meant, I got the title wrong. I just liked the part whwn it sounds like she realizes that maybe she was just too good for him lol. I work out harder on that part.
:] I know that song.. my mom used to listen to it too.. Though I had never really payed attention to the lyrics and it's meaning.. until now that you two are talking about it.
lol thanks guys just make me feel old lol. Actually it was some time ago. I think it was maybe 4yrs ago that I had my last break up and I'm sure she made that song way before that so I guess I can count the years lol. I'm telling you time flies.
yes, it's carthartic,
nothing is worse than listening to happy bobby music when something terrible has just happened to you.
I listen to sad songs no matter what my emotional state is. Same for happy songs. It doesn't really matter much, but yeah, I guess I have gone a tad overboard after a breakup, sort of moving from really sad to hopeful.
Songs by themselves generally don't get to me that much, but there are a lot of songs that I've attached memories and deeper meanings to, which can shake me up pretty good. Not enough to cry, at least not recent enough to recall.
Check out the movie "High Fidelity" it's all about music and breakups.
there's a whole bunch but here's a few songs I can find that's still on my computer.
Lee Ann Rimes - all by my self
Michelle Branch - everywhere
Celine Doion - because you loved me
there use to be way more but it was too depressing for me to keep them.
I like this song.. but ti's so sad. :[
There's always someone worse. D:

As a guitarist/musician, hell yes I do. Broke up with a girl sevarl weeks ago and I must have listened to "Over You" by Chris Daughtry at least 50 times. Music is my biggest drug, not only listening, but playing and composing my own songs. I even wrote a song about the break up, now that makes you feel better haha.
For me I do listen to sad songs when I am upset. For me I like hearing a similar situation to mine from someone else. Especially if you've listened behind the scenes and know that the song was written because it happened to that person. It makes it easier knowing that someone else felt the pain too :) but cry listening to a song? It takes a lot to make me cry haha. Unless I'm really really mad then it's just involuntary!
If I go through a breakup, I generally want something cathartic. So I listen to a lot of hard rock, heavy metal, and punk. Something that can get me out there, thrashing around and ultimately getting out all the anger and pain and frustration I was feeling. Yeah I listen to ballads from time to time, when I'm cooling off, but if I'm not, it's something that's gonna get me pumped up and letting loose.
I do this.
My boyfriend's answer: No. Why would I want to listen to sad songs that make me sad if I'm depressed? It will just make me more depressed. You need to listen to happy songs that make you feel better about yourself.
Hahaha! We know that.. but we do it anyway!
not during a break up but when I feel down or depressed I do listen to more sad or slowed rap than I usually do. or if I'm thinkin about someone who passd I do (bone thugs and harmony, crossroads) but I think that's what good about music. there are songs for every mood you have because a lot of artist make the best music when they are sad are in certain states of happiness
I more or less try to listen to songs that make me feel better...Like empowering songs...like 'Irreplaceable' or something.
I do that too.. but only when I'm almost getting over what made me sad in the first place. I suppose to let go completely.
Yeah I think I am the same :)
thats depressing .. their other things to do.. like hit the gym or read a book or play a sport
:] good advice! Ty.
lol Kairon. That's mean.
Not sad songs... I do tend to listen to songs but not sad ones or ones that make me cry. If anything I would listen to a song that helps me get over the girl and not one that depresses me. For example... If a girl and I just broke up I might listen to Bittersweet Memories by Bullet For My Valentine. This song doesn't make me sad, but it does help me get over the relationship.
I don't but I listen to a lot more metal usually but I listen to a lot anyway. I listen to what ever I feel like which is generally more up beat or brain killing.
To be honest I like sad songs anyway. Do I listen to them anymore than usual when going through a breakup? No. I don't think so anyway.
But then, sad songs are just something I like listening to, period.
no not really, since thoes songs will make you cry the more.better listen to songs that wiil make you happy and elevate your sprit than to listen to sad songs.
I knowwww.. It's not good.. but I can't help it.. It's like I'm sad and I want to be even sadder!
As if liked it...I don't but I do it! :[
No, when I feel down I listen to music that makes me feel good, not music that drags me further down.
blink 182 I miss you, for my dear friend mitchell who passed.i guess whenever something gets serious enough to listen to these kind of songs..none of my relationship haven't been hard enough on me
no, I believe if you're truly depressed, songs will actually become meaningless and annoying, even the most emo ones.
i've been in a hellhole before, and believe me when you're truly sad, you don't listen to songs. you just cry and sleep more.
Oh.. When I'm sad I do it all... depressing song, cry, sleep! Wake up feel better.. and repeat all over the next day.. x[
i don't know not really the kind of thing I would do , none of my music is really sad by nature
I love listening to "sad" songs that make
me feel like crying no matter what mood
I'm in, but there's not much that can make
me cry for real <3
I love most music..
I have a tiny recording of faries farting that I save for those occasions.
LOL Care to share that one?
I drive really fast. Then get home, get really drunk with some good friends and break things. Do this until you're over it
:o I hope you don't have constant break ups! XD
Don't You Remember by Adele
Song made me ball my eyes out cause it was EXACTLY what I did and was thinking during a breakup.
no! I try my best to stay away from them (when going through a sad situation)
