If you live in the US or Canada, it is unwise or even illegal for employers to ask about race, gender, marital status, race of your spouse, gender of your spouse, sexual orientation, religious believe, or anything that does not have anything to do with your qualification especially things that are out of your control such as race. That's because it is a basis for discrimination law suit.
If you sue the employer that rejected you on racial basis, you may win if you can prove it. If you show the court the written questionnaire asking you to specify your race and if you can show the court that the employer hired someone to fill the position that is less qualified than you but has the same race as the employer. Or something like that, I don't know, I am no lawyer.
Girl you know better than that. You know if you you got an ounce of black in you, you one of us. Look at Halle, Tiger, Paula Patton and she light as hell, Pres Obama and his mom white as hell but he's still the first BLACK president the list goes on. Thees are all biracial people but if you were to ask a white person they'll say they're black not what they're mixed with. So when you put white on that app and they see you they'll say you lied even though you're not. Your best bet is to check that box that says OTHER and explain later.
These types of stories I love to hear about . Just a few weeks ago I watched a video about an African American woman pretending to be White and her job offers sky rocket.

I don't think you'll get in trouble. But they would be disappointed.
You probably won't get in trouble, but you won't get on their good side, either, if and when they find out you aren't telling the truth. Always be honest, it will save you a lot of hassle.

Elizabeth Warren claimed she was Native American but turned down an opportunity to prove it and she was a Harvard Professor and now is a US Senator.
But, I'm assuming you're not politically connected so you're just a typical peasant, so yes, lying on a job application is a crime called perjury.
You won't get into trouble but you will wipe the "I want to hire you" smile off their face. I remember one time I talked to a employer on the phone to set up a interview. He seemed like he was so looking forward to interviewing me but that changed when he finally saw me. Didn't get the job but that's okay. America is a very racist, discriminating place and unfortunately you have to go through it.
They'll probably think you don't know how to read, or lack attention to detail if anything...
I'm not sure you'd get into trouble, formally, but they'll definitely peg you as untrustworthy.
