7 Totally Awesome Reasons Why I Love the UK and Why You Should Too Revealed by a Local. (Has pics of hot Brit girls and food that will make you drool)

The UK is a special place, full of history, culture, different foods, and beautiful scenery. This article will explain 7 of the reasons why I love the UK and why you should too. Come here on your next holiday and you will not be disappointed.

1. The food

I have no idea why Britain is described in that joke, “Where the chefs in hell come from”. Look at the following picture:

From top left:

Cornish Pasties are heaven sent pastries filled with salt and peppered potato, swede, onions, and beef. This is one you will never forget, it comes from the end of the South-West peninsula which is called Cornwall. They were invented by tin miner’s wives that put the left overs in a pastry with a thick rind that the miners could hold with their soiled hands.

Scotch eggs are boiled eggs covered in sausage meat and topped with breadcrumbs that you have to be careful not to choke on as you eat it as fast as you can with great excitement.

Welsh cakes. Imagine thinner, denser, more flavourful scones with raisins and lots of sugar. English people will dis on the Welsh but not their cakes.

Victoria sponge is a vanilla cake filled with jam and sometimes cream.

Fish & Chips Enough said.

Curry is an Indian food but since we colonised them and we are lucky enough to have tons of them living here, we can call it British food as well. So yummy.

Irish stew is stewed lamb, parsley, potato, carrot and onion. Ideal for the winter.

Beans on toast, Imagine a sweet tomato sauce with soft haricot beans dumped on top of lovely buttery toast.

Jelly babies are the sweets that British children love to decapitate. And they are good. Look out for the purple ones, they are blackcurrant flavour. All British sweets in fact, that are purple are blackcurrant unlike the US here it is all grape.

Chocolate covered Turkish delight is my favourite. A rose flavoured gel coated with a thin layer of chocolate. I have an American cousin that described it as tasting like expensive soap.

Haggis is not as bad as it sounds so don’t gag. It is sheep’s lungs chopped up with other organs and stuffed with herbs and pepper into the stomach. Imagine beef mixed with sausage meat. I have to try this on a pizza.

Shepherd’s pie is minced beef in gravy topped with mashed potato and cheese.

Feel hungry?

2. The beaches

Admit it, when you think of the UK, you think of people all dressed up against the cold holding umbrellas because it is raining. WRONG. Actually, we do have a lot of rain. But we also have a lot of sun and our beaches are fun no matter the weather. Here are my three favourites:

Marazion Bay, Cornwall

Simply because of the island in the middle of it that can be reached by boat. A long cobbled path leads up to the fascinating castle. Cornwall has many lovely beaches, not just this one.

Knoll Beach, Dorset

Everything a beach should be in my opinion, sand, a beautiful view; it is close to Corfe Castle, and gets great sun. Not a disappointment. This is close to Bournemouth.

St. Brelade’s, Jersey

On the island of Jersey, this is one of its best beaches. The picture says it all.

There are many, many other beaches to go see. Chesil Beach which is also in Dorset is an isthmus of pebbles and it is great fun climbing the pebble mountain at a snail’s pace to see the sea on the other side. There is a town called Seahouses up in Northumberland that has a special beach too.

3. Wales and its language

What do you make of the name of this train station?

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is the name of a small town on the island of Anglesey in North Wales. The meaning of this long name is, “St Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel Near to the Rapid Whirlpool of Llantysilio of the Red Cave.” Wow.

Wales also has Snowdonia which is a beautiful area of mountains, there are loads of castles to see, and in the South, there are all these great valleys. Take a look at this:

So the main religion in Wales is rugby. English people are wary of going near Cardiff (capital of Wales), Swansea, and Newport when there is a match between the two countries because you do not want to go near a drunken Welsh person when England has just beaten their butts. The women are famous for being absolutely gorgeous, nicknamed “valley queens”. Just have a look at mezzo soprano singer Katherine Jenkins OBE from Neath, West Glamorgan:

Can we say, “Forget Beyonce”?

For the Welsh language hotspots, go to North and West Wales. The more old fashioned, the more Welsh they are. Indeed, there are many towns that feel like they have not changed since the eighties. The Welsh language is beautiful; here is a video of someone speaking Welsh:

When you go to Wales, please remember for your own sake NOT TO CALL IT ENGLAND. They hate this. In general, start calling us the United Kingdom, please! :D

4. Our diversity of accents and people

We have a lot of people from other countries living in the UK which is fun, but we don’t need these people to be called diverse. We had it before they came.

Cockneys (think of Eliza Doolittle’s accent in from My Fair Lady) come from London, people from Essex sound like cockneys on steroids, the West Country has a lot of farms and they sound like Hagrid. Bristolians (from Bristol, a city in the West Country which is where I come from) sound like Hagrid mumbling. Bristolians have a reputation for driving aggressively and being slightly rude. Bristol is also a very multicultural city in the sense of how many people from different countries live there.

Liverpool is where the Beatles come from. The accent here is scouse and it is cool to hear them say the word “Liverpool” in their accent. Mancunians come from Manchester, a city close to Liverpool that is a lot bigger. Their accent is somewhat similar. Here is a funny video taking the mickey out of people from Yorkshire, a beautiful farmland area of the country but with a lot of huge cities like Leeds, Bradford, and Hull. You can hear their accent in this video.

You know, the video was a good idea, just watch this one and it and it will explain all the different accents. I will add a bit of commentary at the end.

Geordie is one of my favourites, the people up there in Newcastle are called the friendliest in the country and that could not be more true. We cool; aloof Southerners are bowled over by their niceness when we go up. Their girls are really cute. Especially when they talk in their accent. <3

The Brummies’ (Birmingham) accent was voted Britain’s least attractive…lol.

5. Our literature, music, and media

It would probably bore some of you if I went off and listed all our great poets, writers, all the old books you should read. I will just say how cool it is to live close to where all these books are set.

Here is a list of British/Irish singers that you probably listen to:

Adele

Tinie Tempah

Ed Sheeran

Jessie J

Emele Sande

The Beatles

The BeeGees

Jess Glynne

George Ezra

Ollie Murs

The Script

And many more!

I will finish this section by showing you a comedy clip that most English people find utterly hilarious and it will show you how off our rockers we are.

6. Scotland

I love Scotland.

Edinburgh is the essence of Scottish class and you can walk the cobbled streets, visit many fun places of historical interest and hear men in kilts with bagpipes playing Scotland the Brave and Loch Lomond on the streets.

Not too far away, further North is Glamis Castle which is said to be the home of a monster, and many ghosts.

7 Totally Awesome Reasons Why I Love the UK and Why You Should Too Revealed by a Local. (Has pics of hot Brit girls and food that will make you drool)

There is a story that some people wanted to find out how many room there were, went around hanging banners out the window of every room and when they went outside, they saw a buch of windows without banners

Concerning Glasgow, Glasgow is a place I have heard described as “the armpit of Scotland”. I have been there and actually find it really charming and fun. Imagine, people milling about that you don’t understand because it sounds like they are singing in a foreign language, police vans on every other street, thugs, drunks bursting out of pubs and having fistfights, tall, dark old buildings. No really, I like it.

7 Totally Awesome Reasons Why I Love the UK and Why You Should Too Revealed by a Local. (Has pics of hot Brit girls and food that will make you drool)

The girls are known to be a lot livelier than the English ones and the ones I have met and heard of had a whacky sense of humour. My kind of girl <3. I have also heard them known to be man-eaters. Things like watching a guy drink from a glass then carefully recovering the glass and drinking from the same spot so that that they “kissed”. I heard someone say that men are their main topic of conversation.

The men seem nice (no, they don’t wear kilts twenty-four/seven), from the ones I have met there seem to be two basic types: the meek, sweet and innocent ones and the grumpy stoics. Think of Grumpy the dwarf in a kilt. These are just observations, there are many other types of Scots.

I have never been to the highlands, but they sound like fun and from studying a map, I see that it is quite sparsely populated up there. High on my bucket list are Aviemore (highest town in the country nestled up in the Cairngorms), and Loch Ness. I am also keen to visit the islands of which there are many up there covered in castles, deer, beaches, and strong winds. And while we are on the subject of islands:

7. The Channel Islands

These amazing little gems of paradise lie off the coast of Normandy France. The two crown dependency countries that they make up are the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey. Jersey is one island and Guernsey is Guernsey Island and all the rest.

You saw a picture of Jersey earlier, this nine by five mile island is my favourite. They have their own cows that produce creamy milk, the best tasting potatoes, beautiful sun and beaches. To top it off, there is the Durrell Wildlife Trust there with a fun zoo. They make it expensive to visit the island because they don’t want riff-raff coming and spoiling it for the richer people who can afford it. I once had the privilege of squatting in a primary school there and wow were they well kitted out. Jersey has a language (Jerrais) rarely spoken that is similar to French and their own version of the pound.

The locals seem friendly and mostly laid back. Every time I said I wished I could live there they would say something along the lines of, “No you don’t. It is super boring here.”

Maybe. Maybe.

Guernsey is even more expensive and the island is smaller than Jersey which is saying something. This time, I stayed with a friend. The house I stayed in there are shockingly huge, three kitchen areas, huge dining room, five bathrooms lots of bedrooms, etc. They have their own cows too which provide a very different kind of milk that some people who are lactose intolerant find they can drink.

There what is known to be the smallest chapel in the world, take a look:

Alderney is tiny, sleepy, and known to be boring. They do have cars though and their own language which again is rarely spoken.

Sark is two islands connected by an isthmus and is even smaller than Alderney and with its own language. Cars are banned but you can ride in a horse drawn carriage or on a bike.

Herm is, guess what? Smaller? Yes! They go one better by banning bikes and the playing of radios out in the open is forbidden. Herm is said to receive some of the best sun and to have some of the best food on the islands.

There are other, smaller islands like Jethou, Lihou, Burhou, Ortac, Crevichon, Brecqhou, etc. Some are inhabited.

So that is the end, there are many other things I love about the UK, I have only shared a few. I have not shared things like how gorgeous the girls in Belfast are especially with their accents <3, and how the Queen lets her royal corgies bite anyone they wish when she is touring. Here are two more pictures I cannot resist sharing:
