Did you get hurt physically? Cause maybe they threat you differently cause of the accident.
And if not then I can tell you what my friend said.
"I like you, you are my only real friend cause all the others just threat me nice and lick my butt cause of my money and you don't give a fuck about it."
(We also had a few rows when he 'tested me' like being a dicktard I got pissed of now he stops doing it.

Absolutely, even if you just look like you have money.
As to why, money is the most important indicator of social status in the USA and it's one of the top indicators in other countries as well. It's the equivalent of beating your chest or flashing your tail feathers.
Because they are hoping if they kiss your ass that you will either A) Give them money or B) Become "besties" and buy them things.
Same thing happened to me when I was 17. Have you ever seen the movie Princess Diaries? Its exactly like that. Everyone hated her but once they found out she was a princess, they all wanted to be her friend. People are evil and money hungry.
There will always be people who will treat you better or start noticing you if they didn't before when you gain money, power/status/fame, or beauty. They want in with the superficial merits you've gained in some form. You'll even hear celebrities talking about this sort of thing, so best be wary with the new while remaining true to those who have always been true to you.
Oh wow my family is quite wealthy and I always experienced the exact opposite unless I was sent to a private boarding school in the UK - some people on previous schools wouldn't even talk to me; they would just gossip about me how I always wear designer and am oh so spoiled. Envy can be a BIG reason for some people to hate you, it's ridiculous.
Our culture is taught to value material wealth and connect it with higher moral character for some reason.

If people have known you for reasonably long time and they start treating you differently after seeing money then,
- C'mon, do I need to tell you? It's obvious reason.
If they're strangers,
- They assume you're hard working/have respected job/status etc.Money shows you who your real friends are. You may never figure out 'why' but just know that if they change they aren't real. They are fake, and not just to you. Stay away. I love the quote 'when someone shows you who they are believe them'.
They probably just want to get a part of it from you over time.
Because most of them value people according to their money.
They expect some.
by the way Throughout the settlement process, what what the attorneys cut?Capitalists call this the "Trickle Down Effect" lol. We hope to cath some crumbs from the rich man's table.
I am not sure maybe they feel your important to society or your super smart. To have the much!
In the you will become friends and buy them things.
Or it she may be being nice as you were in a accident.Because people are greedy and want some of that money.
They are wishful to think they will receive some of it in some way
Because they feel a bit intimidated
Money is status.
