What is the best way to give an ex their stuff back?

My boyfriend broke up with me. We were in a loving relationship for three years but grew apart rather than together. We said the best thing right now is just to stay friends, but this just makes me want to believe that one day he will come back, but can't hang on to this hope (he obviously didn't love me enough to stay). I still love him and miss him every minute. Although its only been a couple of weeks since the break up he called me the other day to say hello. I meantioned that he left his watch here( it ain't cheap). He said he had no idea it was even missing and asked if he could come by to pick it up in the next couple of days. I told him that it may not be the best time(I'm still dying inside, never said that, but I'm sure he knows). He said it was cool and would call me for it whenever. When is the best time to give back his watch and a few other little things that he has left here? I have his sister's phone number should I just give it to her to avoid seeing him? Will it make a difference to him? looking at all his stuff is making me miss him more and it needs to get out of here.
