Short shorts on guys?

Question

I recently did some shopping and got some retro 80's short shorts for lounging around and doing chores.  They are really comfortable, they keep me cooled down, and it is so much nicer than wearing long shorts.  I have noticed that my girlfriend really enjoys them too and she stares a lot and can't keep her hands off of me.  Is this trend coming back and what do you think about that?

I'm about 5 or so years older than you, so I remember the 80's pretty clearly- I lived 100% of them after all. I never stopped wearing them. I tried the longer ones around 1992 when that trend started (or so), but I didn't like them, so I kept wearing my original shorter ones. Fast forward nearly 25 years later, and it went from no one batting an eye back then to all kinds of pointing, laughing, picture taking, gay comments strewn my way, etc. It's like what the? This was the norm when I was a preteen/teenager, and no one cared, why all of a sudden it's such a big deal is because these kids who are answering (since it gives ages, it's abundantly clear they're all kids to this near 40-something), who grew up in the 90's, only seeing these knee length ones, so that's all they think is attractive. They have no clear memory of the 80's, and saw the millions of men who wore them (including Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Thomas Magnum- okay, a tv show, but it was the style, clearly shown through television). I look at it like this, if it was okay to do it in the 80's when all these kids were conceived, then it's okay to do it today! PERIOD! Who cares what these little snots think anyway, they're all too immature to begin with to even say how they don't like it, because they don't doesn't mean that 100% of everyone does.

I think if my woman wanted me to wear them and liked how I look in them, I would wear them for her.  I also think you have a right to wear what you want & who cares if people don't like it or if they judge you.  You are your own person.  Personally, I would think it would be funny if I would be wearing short shorts & somebody judged me as being gay, because, boy, are they ever wrong!  haha  (Personally, I don't normally wear them because they are pretty tight & make me feel uncomfortable, but I would not judge you for wearing them if you wanted to!)  lol  :)

I may be a little late to the party here because I just spotted your question. Amen to you. I do think that todays women are very prudish when it comes to guys taking a little pride in their bodies and wanting to uncover a little bit, particularly in very hot weather. We get to do it, so why do guys have to sweat their balls off, just not to offend? Guys are pretty much screwed when it comes to fashion. Ever since homophobia became prevelent in the 80s men have adopted a heterosexual uniform. Anything that veers from that is considered gay or just not right. Before the mid-80's shorter shorts were the norm, and women didn't get their panties all in an uproar over it, and loved looking. Today's women act like they have been flashed just because they might see an inch or two above a knee-cap. How unenlightened we have become! Just read some of the answers women and men give when discussing anything on men that isn't big and baggy. If it is does not fit the template of what is acceptable heterosexual fashion, it is denegrated, no matter how attractive you may look wearing it. Fashion today for men is as much about social attitudes as it is about fashion. Until the attitude of society changes and we finally grow up, don't expect anything to change.

I can say with a decent amount of confidence that they're not coming back into style. If you wear them, most people will probably assume that you're gay and/or a slut. I think the reason why guys never wear short shorts is because our legs generally look way worse than girls' legs, so if they're comfortable for you and you like how you look in them, more power to you.but societally you'll be judged constantly.

I remember my brothers playing basketball in short shorts and tube socks, so when I see them, I get a good laugh at my brothers' expense.

I've never been a fan of those shorts in general, but I don't think it's acceptable for a girl to wear them and wrong for a guy. If you like them, wear them. Just not with tube socks lol

personally, I'd probably find it really hot, but as an at home thing. if I saw a guy wearing those on the street, I'd think "gay!" but at home it's fine. if your girlfriend likes them, even better! don't stop wearing them by any means, just probably keep them to the house.

I don't wear short shorts just like I don't wear girl jeans. They are out of style and frankly I've never seen a guy pull them off.

If you are so worried about this double standard and all that, why don't you drop the boxers and briefs and wear a thong to feel sexy?

I work out 5-6 days a week.
Im androgynous and naturally hairless.
My legs are as curvy as a sexy woman's, my torso and arms are manly and my face qualifies for modeling.
Ladies scream when I walk pass.

Ok well the girls answering are not prudish, they are being honest. What about the double standard when girls sleep with a guy and gets called a slut but the guy gets praised? The truth is that the world is full of double standards and always will be. But for your question, if you didn't want to know you shouldnt have asked. Women have double standards when it comes to clothes too. If we show too little, we are looked at as boring prudes; if we show too much then we are looked at as trashy whores. If we're out of style then we're looked at as lame. So please don't go there about double standards!

I have only seen a few guys in them. I never ever judge people, but when I see guys in these shorts I automatically assume they are gay. I know that's awful but blame society ;).  So I can understand getting them to do chores and for lounging around the house, but I wouldn't recommend wearing them out.  We might be thinking about different shorts but I think the shortest a guy should go is about halfway between the top of his knee and his crotch area.

I wear the long cut speedos, because they are more comfortable, dry fast, and last longer than other suits.  Jammers is what I am refering to!  We must be ugly to look at!

I say go for it when you're home and lounging around, but I think it's best to keep it there and not in public.  Now days people are used to the long shorts look on guys, so you will probably get looked at as being gay. I personally would get turned off seeing a guy with short shorts on. It just takes away the manly look.

I would not say that is a trend coming back.  I hate short shorts.and I personally don't know why you want to wear them.  And if I had to wear them I wouldn't in public.  But that's just my opinion.  Some people like them, some people don't.
