So after a hard few weeks with my ex she finally told me that she can't be in a relationship with me anymore because of her mental state. She suffers from depression and past trauma. She asked if I would continue to invite her to activities and soical gatherings. I was completely dumbfounded and didn't know what to say. We're both in our thirties and I've had the friendship thing said before in break ups.

It's understandable that you're feeling confused and unsure about how to respond to your ex's request. It's important to prioritize your own emotional well-being and boundaries in this situation, while also being mindful of your ex's struggles with mental health.
If you're not comfortable continuing to invite your ex to social events, it's okay to respectfully decline her request. You can explain that you need time and space to process the end of the relationship and focus on your own emotional needs.
At the same time, it's important to be compassionate and understanding towards your ex's struggles with depression and past trauma. You can let her know that you care about her well-being and encourage her to seek support from a therapist or mental health professional.
Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what feels right for you in this situation. It's okay to set boundaries and prioritize your own emotional well-being, while also being compassionate and supportive towards your ex's struggles with mental health.
That's not how breaking up works
Yeah I was surprised to hear that from her.
