Just be extremely cautious if your plan is to be married , and NEVER marry someone who has less than you , you just can't do this any longer , crazy system.

Family courts are known to be gynocentric, vestiges of the long-ago days when women stayed home with the kids while the husband worked.

There really needs to be a better way to handle child support than what often currently occurs. And it's useless to throw a parent in jail for nonpayment since a criminal record and a stay in jail is only going to hurt the parent's ability to earn enough money to pay it, especially what's in arrears.

I was also surprised to learn that some women still get alimony, which I discovered on a date when the woman matter-of-factly mentioned she got it.

I completely agree. The thing is that because 80% of divorces are intiated by women most of them have had a year or two even decades to plan it all out to their advantage, meeting with divorces attorneys and evaluating all financial assests and property. Then they work out how to secure alimony so need to make sure their husband makes more than them and also ensure they will get full child custody for child support. Them she will build a case for domestic abuse, the husband might come home to find the police waiting for him and his wife has two mysterious black eyes and he gets arrested. While he's in jail she gets a restraining order so he can't come back to the family home meanwhile she already run up debts in his name and emptied their joint bank accounts. When he gets out she's moved her new man who she was cheating with into the family home and won't let her ex see his kids.

When it comes to divorce there is a whole Playbook of different plays and strategies women use and there's nothing colder or more ruthless than a wife who's decided to leave her husband.

It’s ruined marriage as a whole and has no place in current society where both spouses have to work anyway. My uncles life was totally ruined by his ex-wife’s infidelity. She cheated on him with a rich doctor, filed for divorce, took his kids from him, turned them against him, took him for child support and spousal support. He lost his job, struggled for years to pay the child support, then tried to get out of it after his kids turned 18 by fleeing the state. She got his own kids to set a trap for him to come see them and he was arrested and sent to prison. There is a special place in hell reserved for the demon he married.

Most of the time in marriages men continue to progress their careers to make more money and women sacrifice their careers to stay home and care for kids/husband/home.

If they get divorced then he is basically paying her back for that time she sacrificed since she was unable to keep up with a career for however many years they were married.

firstly the only reason for a divorce should be infidelity. You have to look at the circumstances, are there kids involved, is the women or man a stay at home person etc. Id say if there are no kids involved that each partner take their things and go. Whatever was bought during marriage should be sold/ split 50/50. If there are kids then its changes a lot and gets more complex.

As women make more and more money it is evening out, but typically men make much more than women, especially when they're married and have kids and the woman either stays home or works at a job lower than her earning capacity so she doesn't have to work 80 hours a week. So the alimony compensates for that financial difference. It is unfair to men to a degree, but life is unfair to women to a degree, so it somewhat balances out.

My ex-wife has a great career and can retire with a full pension before she's 60. All I got after 25 years of paying all the mortgage payments and house bills was a TV and my recliner and I had to give her half the sale of the house. Then I had to give her an extra 13k. Divorce is final and now she says I owe her an extra $1500. Kids are all grown and fortunately they all took my side so it was all worth it. When I compare how I fared to my divorced male friends, I feel like I did ok.
