My ex boyfriend and I broke up on may because I couldn't communicate with him and started losing feelings for him but we kept in touch with each other but then we stopped talking for 3 weeks after an argument and I reached out first and we started having meals together

One day when I was looking through his phone I found messages from a former friend group talking bad about me calling me a pick me girl and a crazy b*tch and I lashed out at him and telling him that I want to hit him and I told him to leave me alone and I want nothing to do with him but I didn't block him and after a month he texted me, checking up on me and even sent me a funny video to cheer me up, should I reply to him?

Update: He didn't talk about about me, he was only present in that friend group but didn't say anything, that friend group was only spreading rumours and calling me names to dissuade him from getting back with me

If you want the entire circus to go on and on, then you reply. If, on the other hand, you want your peace and are adamant about leaving the past behind you, then you don't answer.

I fail to see why you even want react to his text, knowing that he will never change. By ignoring his text, you signal that the past is behind you and that you have started a life without him. You gave him a second chance but he stabbed you in the back by revealing his true identity in the text to his friends.

If that is how much he cares, then you should leave him alone because you know he will never change. You take him back and the routine will take over.
