Why is my ex pulling and pushing me away?

My ex is still hitting me up even though he was seeing another girl and when they became official. We have gotten into so many fights about it and called our quits but he doesn't want to let go. Every time It feels like he wants something with me I fall for it just for him to tell me he loves his girlfriend and wants to be with her. The second before last time we got into an argument about his girlfriend. He said they he was cutting communication with me permanently because its over and he loves his girlfriend, is his future wife, and wants to have a family with her. We didn't speak for a week but he called me several times before I finally answered and he pretended like he didn't say any of what he said above.
