I completely agree wow your friend and her family sounds so conceited but I blame soceity for the ideas of if you look like this girl or this guy you will have a better life. It's ashame

Beauty can only be valued for so long.
But it's true, especially in third world countries that the beautiful people get better treatment, better job prospects, better suitor prospects.

I don't really feel like this is an issue in our society today. In fact, usually the hot girls at my school get screwed over because they put themselves in those situations. They think since they're pretty, any guy would be loyal to them.

Qualities give you advantages. Beauty is one of them. But beauty can be valued by others not oneself so it would depend upon how weak the observer is.

#1. A guy who find so many girls beautiful.
#2. A guy who can be controlled by the beauty.
I'm referring to #2 here.
Same happens with guys too. If a hot guy approaches a girl with confidence, it's a turn on. But if an average or ugly guy approaches a woman, he's a creep.
It's the same for men. Why do you think some guys literally have to swat away the adoring hordes, while others get bullied if they dare to even speak to a girl?

Believe me girls could be just as shallow as guys probably worse, I remember oneday I was watching TV and my sister was deciding between 2 shows and one was "Friends" and the other was "Supernatural" and I tell my sister that she already finished Supernatural but she said she wanted to watch Supernatural more because the guys were better looking and the guy's on Friends were ugly. I have many other examples but this one comes to mind... yep looks matter especially when your young sadly

For girls it is almost entirely in looks. I hate seeing guys put up with the worst bullshit on the basis that she is hot, and he is constantly reminded "how lucky he is to be with her." It puts him in an apologetic stance, and puts her in a "I can do whatever the hell I want" stance.
Some guys say "if she's worth it, she won't be easy", but I say "if she's worth it, she'll meet you halfway." Guys and girls would have a lot to gain if guys become less desperate and girls step up to the plate.
It is not reversal that it happening, it is erasure. Gender rolls are becoming a thing of the past. We will stop attributing behaviors and tasks based on one's genitals. It is about time, too.

The reason people do this is because they don't realise if a guy can get one hot girl, he can probably get others. That girl saw something in him, so what's to stop other girls from seeing the same thing?
