A person having high status is completely unrelated to whether or not you can learn from them. I'm not sure if you see that. High status does not mean intellect or intellectually thoughtful. High status means they are known by others. I've known some really dumb people with high status. Actually most people I've known with high status I don't think tend to be smart people. The smarter people are probably more often the quiet introverts.

I would think this is pretty obvious but a person with good looks benefits their partner because we are usually sexual creatures that get pleasure by biological traits that we find attractive. Your brain is telling you that this person is genetically a good match so you feel pleasure. It's the same reason why certain foods taste good to you out why sleep feels refreshing. Your brain is telling you they're nourishing and positive for you. Of course there are some people that are asexual so they don't feel this and there are people that have had bad experiences with romance so they learned to avoid it.

In this scenario, they included intelligence (the main reason I chose it). Being high status or intelligent doesn’t mean you’re unattractive, so that’s why I’d choose that.

Now if I was looking for something casual; I’d go for just looks, but anything deeper? You need substance to you; not just a pretty face. You have to have more than looks to be arousing to me.

I actually have an older friend like that and he’s actually aware of our intelligence difference. He doesn’t make me feel insecure about that and still teaches me a lot of stuff in a way I can understand when I tell him I don’t understand.

I never said that. It's not what I meant. Like I said, I would wager that higher social status people generally have quite low intelligence. Go to a math club meeting and see how socially outgoing they are. I thought I explained that.

I can see how intellect matters. I believe when you said "How does a guy who just looks good with nothing going for him benefit me?" that would either a learned defense due to negative reinforcement exposure or due to asexuality / low sex drive. It doesn't matter though. I'm not trying to be insulting. That's just my initial guess.

Attraction matters for 95% of us due to being sexual beings. Asking how looks benefit you is biologically equivalent to asking how food tasting good benefits you. We seek what pleasures us. Pleasure is a benefit. That's why if a person is asexual, of course they don't benefit but they are rare exceptions.
