What to wear on a date when it's 100 degrees out (for guys)?

Usually when I would go on a date, jeans + a long sleeve shirt is my go to. Here in Texas though, it's really hot out, and that is not ideal... I feel like shorts and a regular shirt looks too low effort, and something like khaki shorts and a polo shirt looks like I'm trying too hard, and also makes it look like I just finished a round of golf lol. My everyday apparel is gym shorts and a dri fit shirt, as I'm an active person. Any suggestions? Any links would be appreciated, but not necessary.
