Boyfriend made other plans on my birthday?

so my boyfriend and i set a time where we would hang out on my birthday. well, as i’m texting him that i am on my way, he tells me that he is actually going to go hang with his friend for a little bit. i told him i was about to be on my way and he says that he’ll just have to be late. i’m so sad and upset. what should i do?

I would be fuming - that’s extremely thoughtless, inconsiderate and rude - quite cruel actually! I would likely try not to get too emotional on my birthday - so instead, I would text him back saying ‘never mind’ and that I was spending the day with someone else (even if I wasn’t). I wouldn’t text the rest of the day. If the relationship was new/shaky, this might end it - at the very least, he would owe me a serious apology and recognition of his appalling behaviour. If he can’t be bothered about your birthday (especially having already made plans), why should you be bothered about him? Easier said than done, but enjoy your birthday without him! Oh, and Happy Birthday! 🥳

thank you much ❤️ it was a rough night. he was mad at me for being upset with him. he gave me a lot of excuses and then once we had talked through them and i was feeling better, he admires they were all lies, so we got into another argument. i don’t know what to do next. probably break up. but thank you for the advice ❤️
