If your school or town put on an ALUMNI Prom for those who couldn't make it way back when... would you attend?

No. My high school had strict rules on who could go to prom. First it was only open to seniors at our high school. Second, only couples who had registered as such the previous September could go. Third, only those with a 2.75 gpa or better could go. And you couldn't go if there were any disciplinary marks on your record since the beginning of your freshman year. Out of a graduating class of 125 only 28 couples qualified. Tickets were bought by the pair. My prom was held in the spring of 1978. tickets were $200 for two and were in a ballroom at a country club located in town. All boys had to rent a tux from the one tux shop in our town and the rental fee was $40. All girls had to buy their gown from the one gown/bridal shop in town and they started at around $80. All students had to assemble in front of the high school an hour before the beginning of prom. Then they boarded two school buses, boys on one and girls on the other and they were driven to the country club and got off the bus and went in. I didn't go because I wasn't part of a registered couple in September, my gpa was only 2.74 and I didn't have the money to go. Other required expenses were the school bus fee $5, and photos $25. They didn't vote for prom queen. She was automatically the girl with the highest gpa and if there were two or more with a gpa of 4.0 then the principal chose them. There was no prom king, that wasn't a thing. The prom queen's court consisted of the 7 girls with the next highest gpa's. This was in Massachusetts at a small town public high school.
No. My school barely had prom anyway, cause of 9/11 (even though it was months ago, at the time). I was depressed and nearly suicidal at that point in time anyway, so it barely even mattered. And today, females still wouldn't go with me to such a date night event. 😂
No, I wasn't asked. And I wasn't going to go to prom just to stand in an overpriced dress with my friends for a few hours, lol
My mom told me I'd regret missing my prom-
Honestly I don't even think about it, much less high school as I get older.
Wait... you had friends? :+)-
Not really, no. I was kind of the "oddball" that didn't really fit in with anyone. I had people that adopted me rather: one friend introduced me to her friend, whom introduced me to her friends... see the pattern? I never really made my own friends. I was just kind of meshed into a group of people from mutual friends- most of which I barely had anything in common with.
hmmmmmm well you have a friend in me!
@coachTanthony I love that movie.
@HairyPoppins lol classic
You mom told you you would regret missing prom after nobody asked you to prom. Wow, way to lift her spirits, Mom.
To answer the update: still NO. I didn't even attend my high school reunion!
I mean, I know I sound antisocial and jaded (maybe), but I don't need to relive my past, or mingle with people that didn't even talk to me back then or know I existed.
Yes, I could be that person that showed up and "glowed" up- you know, hot body, happy, and living a good life, while the majority of them are living a facade to make others think how perfect their life is...
But I'm not that kind of person.
Ok thanks!
Yes sir, yes sir.
I had so much fun, and felt so pretty because I got a lot more attention than I was used to because everyone was so used to seeing me in my tomboy look.
Everyone kept tellin me how good I looked.

Wow you look very nice! They weren't wrong. Glad you had fun!
Stunning!
@miah02 excellent, you look great a great look
Congrats
@miah02 no problem, you looked divine

Nope.. The day my highschool prom was happening, was the day I got married🤣
You got married young?
Yep May 1990,2 months before my 19th birthday, that was first husband tho (ex) not my second
Lol I was not even born š¤£š
When you got married , and this statement is completely irrelevant š»š
I did not attend prom as a junior. I attended college 350 miles away from home during my senior year so I did not attend prom as a senior, either.
Update: Like going to a reunion in a formal? I could do that!
I had a seizure in the middle of pictures before heading to Prom. My best friend got the principal of my school to sign off on my own private prom to be held in the Band Room after making a petition signed by all the faculty, even the school police officer (i was a good kid, every teacher knew me), & got 3 teachers to agree to chaperone the event. My mom didn't have to pay for a second "Prom Hair & Makeup" because the place i got it done has the best owner! I didn't get to see my classmates in their gowns, but all my friends came for our little private party!
Wow that is cool. I mean not the seizure but the private prom.
It was the best, i couldn't have had more fun!
Definitely regretted it. We had a boat prom at 16 after exams. Although I loved wearing a pretty long gown, the prom was really boring. I got asked out by one guy (friend at the time) I rejected so went with friends. On the main floor of the boat everyone screamed and jumped to Travis Scott and on the ground floor were me and my little group of friends. I fell asleep out of boredom and my friend came up with a stupid game of throwing toothpicks at each other. So yes I do regret it, even the pics were rubbish and no food was served as it was low budget
I was with my friends the whole night you misread lol
Yeah, it was so much fun! It wasn't super romantic or anything like the movies make it look, it was more like my friends and I hanging out at lunch or something except we were all dressed up. A guy did ask me to prom, but then when we got there he wanted nothing to do with me, so I just did my own thing and hung out with my friends while eating food. Afterward, we ate pizza and played board games until 3 in the morning.
Looks like you made the best of it. Good for you!
Not only did I go to prom, but upon learning that there was one girl in our Senior class that DIDN'T get asked.
I asked the girl from another school I was seeing if I could instead take the unasked girl to my school's Prom and INSTEAD take my original Date to HER school's Prom!
She was kind enough to allow me to escort TWO girls, each to THEIR Proms~ <3 :)
Actually no, I did not. I wasn't really into the social aspect of high school when I was there and that kind of thing didn't really interest me. Looking back, I recall a couple of young women who I knew when I was a senior who were "hinting" that they wanted to be asked to the prom by me, but I didn't catch on until later... LOL...
No. I was really withdrawn and messed up in high school, and didn't do anything, other than show up for class, do my homework, take tests, and pass on to the next grade. I didn't even TALK to girls, because I figured they'd just make fun of me anyway. It wasn't until a couple of years after high school that I started growing up, breaking out of a lot of shells, and getting my act together.
Haha , I had a rollercoaster ride that was highschool, I constantly moved schools and the last school I ended up in didn't even bother to throw us a farewell or a matric dance (prom) so I never got to experience those things. I was said that it didn't happen but with age you just learn to let it go and move on and realise that life is so much more and silly dance doesn't even matter.
I always dreamed of prom so much!!! I really wanted to go in a beautiful dress with a really cute and sweet guy. But Iām transgender and I left school sophomore year because people were so mean and I knew no guy was going to take me and Iād probably be made fun of instead of getting to have a magical time. 😭
I know Iām 26 but sometimes I still like to daydream of how prom wouldāve went and get so happy thinking itās a real memory!!! 🥰
That would make a great business. Having proms a couple of times a year for those who missed out! Or better yet do allumni proms.
My parents didn't want me to go to a regular high school, so I didn't get to experience things like that.
Did you feel you missed out?
I get that.
@ArrowheadSW Independent study.
@ArrowheadSW My dad didn't trust me, I guess.
@Still-alive I already blocked him. š
Clearly he ran out of chronic or something smh lol
Hell no. It always fell on my birthday and I wasnāt going to spend money on tuxes and a damn limo. I was asked by what some would argue as the prettiest gal on campus and I shot her down - kinda surprised her but when I told her why, she understoodā¦. I would camp and fish on my birthday. I wasnāt about to change that. She still would sit on my lpa and play with my hair in spite of my not taking her.
I never asked anyone because at the time, I wasn't exactly the happiest kid in the world. I was constantly moved from school to school because of my dad's occupation at the time and had largely given up on making friends and I just kept to myself and stayed as far away from the 'cool' kids as I could. Obviously, the decision to exile myself from everyone else made me a target to a number of massive shitheads like anyone else that did the same. But HS isn't something I've ever missed.
I did. Not with a date, but I went. There was nothing special about it like in the movies. I sat, ate food and went home after. Boring event from my experience. I didn't go to prom cottage afterwards which was apparently where all the actual fun was.
Here in the UK we never had proms back in those days, and to be honest, I hated school so much that as soon as the final bell went, there was a 'me' shaped cloud of smoke left behind as I disappeared NInja style.
Yeah, all 4 years. Not really all that it was cracked up to be. Nothing like the movies.
Yeah, I think the whole ātaking a dateā thing is an American thing though, because people with dates were the minority at our school and most people went with their friendship groups lol
So you guys dont have dances?
Lol no everyone just ran to the dance floor and started jumping up and down and like two couples were slow dancing lol and thatās about it
lol sounds like something i would do :P
I didn't go while I was in school but I went to two other schools prom 😂
I enjoyed my junior and senior prom. Won door prizes both times. Had a date both times as well but Iām not much of a dancer. 2 stepping as expected of a Texan but thatās about it.
I did!
I went to a Private school so my graduating class had only 11 people including myself. It was quite intimate and everyone basically knows everyone.
I went to prom by myself, no guy was interested so I said f*** it. Was on the dance floor all night even got the spot light at one point, all my friends were just sitting at the tables doing nothing they were only interested in photos. So I made sure I had a great time, my only wish was that I had someone to dance with as we bust it down to the groovy tunes hahaha.
Nope I hated school so instead took my prom money and travelled around Europe instead one of the best choices of my life
We don't really do proms in Canada. My school had a winter formal dance that was probably the closest thing to prom. I didn't go, but some of my friends did and they said it was alright.
No. I had left school 3 months earlier for a co-op program, worked 2 shifts, and had nightschool all the day/night of prom. I wouldn't do it if they offered another oppurtunity, not into work or school get-togethers. Not on my free time. Was 4 years not enough? I sent this response to my friend when she asked why I wasn't going lolā¬ļø
Yep! Mine was 5 years ago tomorrow! I had a great night with my friends! (British prom is a bit different tho)
I didn't go, even though I could've gone twice. I was dating a senior in my freshman year, so I could have gone with her, but nniether of us thought of it. So it didn't happen.
And then obviously the second one is my own i e in senior year. I didn't go to that one either.
Didn't go to Prom, Homecoming or even walk the stage for graduation (I graduated tho) I also missed my 10 year reunion, to which I would have attended but never got invited to because I'm not on facebook or whatever. Highschool was lame, College was better.
I did not. I didn't ask anyone. I avoided the whole thing.
Re: update: Hell to the no! Omg- that's so cringe.
Ha Ha Ha
No, the girl I asked to go with me said she was going with her mom instead and I didnāt want to show up being a loser without a date, so I didnāt end up going.
In hindsight, I probably shouldāve gone anyways but I didnāt want to feel like a loser or feel like I had to compete with said girlās mom for the girlās attention.
LOL it is what it is. Who in the world goes to prom with their mom anyway? Cray cray
Apparently the hot girl that I asked to go to the prom with?š¤·š»āāļø
*Hot female friend
I went twice. The first one was fun but I'm not sure if my date was that into me. The second one I didn't have a date and I went by myself, I believe I found a single girl there to dance with but I don't remember who.
no, i left high school at 14 due to foreseen circumstances was in 10th grade and would have graduated early
no, I (some friends and myself) ditched both... middle and high-school proms, and pretty much every big school party or event as well.
No. I didn't go to my Jr or sr prom. I did go partying though
That is all that matters in my book lol
Nope because highschool was full of bs and toxic af😭
Or maybe it was me🤷🏾āā
We don't have prom in my school, and idt my parents would've allowed me even if there was prom lol
Yeah, once as a junior and senior with my then-gf (two different ones), and then the year after I graduated with a female friend (at her request).
No I didn't go to my senior or junior prom. I didn't have money for either one and many of the girls didn't strike me as willing to spend time on. So I worked those nights.
They did not exist during my time in the UK equivalent of high school, it is only in the last ten years that they have become a 'thing', with most parents calling them a 'monumental pain in the arse'.
No, I was asked but then lacking those Bentley sized funds and at the time knew no Bentley owners
I instead spent the night with my girlfriend and great vodka
My class took a cruise around New York City I could not afford it so instead I went to the New Jersey Shore it was actually a blast the first time around after that it wasn't the same I even rode the bike all the way up and down the Jersey Shore passed out on the beach woke up with a sunburn my nose that was fun I made the best of it I probably should have went on that cruise and then went to the Jersey Shore but it's alright
Will you show your face asshole who voted no show your face scum sucking feminist
Nope and I donāt regret it. I went for a run and had a bath and enjoyed my night
Nope I wasn't what any girl was attracted to at my school. Which was mostly jocks. It's w/e though I didn't like a lot of people in my grad year.
Nope, a girl wanted me to ask her but I was angry throughout high school and would not have anything to do with something like a prom.
Nope. I saw high school and all its extra shit as something to be avoided at all costs. I spent my senior year taking as many credit by examinations as I could so I could spend less time at school
I had no reason to go. I was a loaner & kind of an outcast all through high school.
@exitseven Yes I realized that after I clicked send.
Yes I did, they just had the senior prom and we had a great time! I went with friends and it is a night I will never forget! Sometimes I wish I could relive it! I was in love with my dress that I wore!
I had to look up the word, and I see it's another one of those American traditions that I am just not at all familiar with. So no, I didn't.
I went - total disaster. It turned out I was the "safe date" for a gal who- I later found out- was already "kind of going with someone else".
Nope I got really sick on prom night and funny enough my date got injured from tennis.
So... Yeah it worked out pretty good.
I didnāt itās just not my scene but I wish I did because a bunch of people got into a fight and got pepper sprayed and they all met back up at Waffle House pretty awkward and funny
Nope. Because I had to I had Army reserve drill that weekend. And I had to report to my active duty station the next week. So I didn't even go to graduation. Lol
I didnāt go and I was told by an older friend that I would regret it.
its been years and I donāt regret it. I would have had a horrible time. And Iām happy I didnāt go. And no I wouldnāt do a reunion prom.
In my original place there are no such rituals.
But we organized a hell of a party :)
Nope, I was learning my "ropes" around that time, in the Coast Guard.
No. There was no such thing here in Australia at the time.
Yes but I don't miss high-school at all honestly. I love being an adult being more in tune with who I am
Yup i went to senior prom with a friend and also to my sisters friends prom. No feelings for any of them.
No I didnāt I was sick of high school dances and I didnāt have a date to go with
Yes I had a graduation prom and even though I was unaware that my school crowned a prom king and queen I ended up winning prom king, still have a crown back home 😂
No. However, I want to find a way to go. Believe it or not, my high school did not have a Junior or Senior Prom.
