It’s not just men. Looks matter and as much as people like to bring in the fairytale quotes “Looks fade” or “What if that person gets injured” is a line that’s a band-aid for those who doesn’t want to admit that looks matter. Good looks may not be the end all be all but how can you feel aroused if you’re not even physically attracted to that individual? It may come off as shallow to some but that’s human nature. Sometimes I’m not even aware how attracted or interested I am in a person until we have more conversation and I recognize the strong emotions.
No one will say “Oh wow, that personality looks good let me give him a hint to let him know I’m attracted to him.” The first thing I notice is the only information I can utilize. My eyes see an attractive guy and now I’m intrigued to find out what’s next.
Why wouldn’t men prefer looks? I have to be with a man that I’m attracted to or it’s not going to work out. Some people will accept “oh they’re so sweet” but I wasn’t attracted to this person at first glance. There are people out there who is good loooking that some may categorize as shallow who is willing to be loyal with a great personality.
Humans are attracted to the visual aspect of people. They like what they see, so they go after it. You can’t really see someone’s personality just by looking at them.

This can be a very complicated subject and more than one person male or female has been hurt by it. I am 63 and honestly don't fool around much with children. I have gone out with 20 somethings, but am not all comfortable. I prefer 34+. I don't place all that much on looks. I sometimes spend a lot of time with a lady who was in a really bad car crash that has left her face scarred. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever known. Giving and open. The only reason she is single is her husband died in that crash many years ago. This is what I value. Be a stickler on personal hygiene. Wash your hair and wear clean clothes. Brush your teeth. Some women during "that time" of the month can lose focus on smell and I hate this. Oh, not all men are like this. In fact, I know more that just want a girl who will always keep her shoes under HIS bed!

I've dated everything from 2's to 10's. It seems to me that no matter where you are on the looks scale, there's a fairly equal possibility of your personality being garbage.
Worth noting is that those on the extremes, either really ugly or amazingly attractive, the personality is more likely to be complete shit.

Because every guy hopes to find a attractive women with a great personality. But its far easier at a glance to see if she's good looking, so the only way to figure out the other half of the equation is to get to know her... but if you want looks and personality it starts with the looks.
As guys get older their idea of beauty changes. Because every women ages different, so some at 20 may not look as good at 30, and some at 30 can look way better than they did at 20. Plus as guys get older they want more than just looks in a women, because by a certain age they have been burned so many times that looks stop being as important or they end up alone and lonely.

Most of these guys who pick a girl solely based on her looks usually aren't looking for something long-term.
