+1 yWell, if you walk away from him simply because he said something you didn't like, you're kind of proving his point. Call him on it. Ask him what he meant, and insist that he back up what he said.
Talk it out like an adult, and you'll be disproving his statement in actions, even if you can't in words.10 Reply

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yDisowning him over an insignificant comment would be a massive overreaction. You could discuss it with him, but I don't think it would accomplish anything except to further frustrate you. The best option would likely be to ignore the comment and continue about your day. Ultimately, who cares what he thinks? We're all entitled to our opinions, but most opinions are stupid and don't need to be respected.

01 Reply What he said is BS. Generalizations I often threat like BS. Should you disow him? Not sure why you would go to that extreme, but he doesn't seem like a caring father 🤷♂️

Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh Most modern women are entitled brats. He's not wrong.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh I completely disagree. He's helping shape her into someone who will be a better woman than most today. It's tough love, but it's the right thing to do.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh Why? Pointing out the problem is always the first step.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh Being honest and upfront is the right thing here. The guy may be a jerk, but not because he said what he did here. Not being honest about the nature of today's women is no way to raise a good woman. It's just as important for a young person to know what NOT to be as it is for her to know what he or she should aspire to be.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh I'm going to quote Alexandra Kaschuta here because I think what she said is important in this discussion.
"Western men are the only group who’s turned a permanent self-critical light on and they’ve been paying the price for it. And women will only have crossed that final, coveted finish line to equality after they’ve bravely turned on their own light."

It's time we stop coddling women and girls and hold them to the same standards we expect of men and boys. That process has been very uncomfortable for males, and the same will be true for females, but it needs to happen. It's time to rip that bandaid off, ladies. It's going to hurt, but it's the right thing to do.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh You are only proof of what I'm saying here.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh I'm familiar with the advice you give women here, and you are genuinely part of the problem with modern women, who tend to be very entitled and self-important and have an unhealthy view of men. I know you have toned down your rhetoric here at GAG a great deal in the last year or so, but you have historically been one of the most misandrist users on GAG.
It's one thing to encourage women to not allow themselves to be taken advantage of, but another thing entirely to push the brand of entitlement and self-importance you have. That does NOT result in healthy relationships with good, self-self respecting men. What it does, instead, is either push good men away or put your subjects in relationships with low-value men who don't have any sense of self-worth.- +1 y
Also, her father is likely trying to smash girls half his age and getting rejected. And he’s taking his anger and emotions out on his daughter who is about the same age. There’s a lot more about him she’s told me in private so there’s more context but my point is, this guy is the low value person in question. What value does his “advice” have here?
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh It's been a year or more since I've seen you post the type of blatant misandry you were so well known for here at GAG, and I'm not going to waste my time rummaging through your sordid history to provide evidence of what you what you already know to be true. If GAG had a reasonable search function I wouldn't hesitate, but as it is it's not how I want to spend my Saturday.
As I said, this guy may be a jerk, for multiple reasons, but saying it like it is about modern women is not one of them. "Critiquing male behavior" is pretty much all you have done on GAG for the last decade, but you get your panties in a wad when someone critique's female behavior. I don't think I need to point out the problem with that.
As I said, you have exemplified what is wrong with modern western women, and are a clear example of what the quote I posted refers to.
Opinion Owner+1 yAll of those things you've said about this guy MAY be true, but it doesn't change the fact that what he said about contemporary women is accurate. Good advice is good advice, regardless of the character of the person offering it.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh The problem is that western men as a whole have acknowledged the problems with the male sex. They are reminded of it every day by the media and by feminist sources. Boys grow up being bombarded with messages that they are bad simply because they were born with a penis. There are all kinds of consequences for that, some good and some bad, but men have been forced to self reflect and as a whole society has far more critical of men that women. And as the author who I quoted earlier rightly pointed out, men have turned a light on themselves and their behavior and, as whole, have made great strides in changing for the better.
Today's women have done NOTHING of the sort, and it's time they did. Society handles women and girls with kit gloves. They are coddled and given far too many passes for their behavior, and as a result have become far too self-important and entitled. Today's women in the West are truly the most privileged class of humans in the history of humanity, but they don't recognize or appreciate that fact. Instead they play the victim while not holding themselves accountable for their behavior.
That is my point and it's an accurate one. What QA's father said was 100% correct, and it needs to be called out. It needs to be said by parents to their girls. It's wrong NOT to say it. It's tough love that is long overdue.
Opinion Owner+1 y@MzAsh Is that really all you are arguing here... that his tone or the words he chose to communicate an important message might have hurt someone's feelings? Um, okay.

It’s not about feelings. It’s about how an adult man communicates to his daughter in a way in which educates and empowers her, and this was not it. Another is that what he said implies that men are without their own flaws. Another is I can only take a few guesses why he’s so emotional about “young women.” My theory is that he was trying to smash some 21 year old kid and it didn’t go as well as he planned.

Quasia, I wouldn’t recommend disowning your father. I also wouldn’t recommend just letting it go. For your own well being and for the greater good, you need to find a way to be more assertive in challenging his attitude on women. Don’t allow him to come at you with negative energy like that without consequences. There is a whole psychological profile to unpack with him and if you do it right, you can expose the roots issues going on here with him. But to go more in depth, I think you need someone who understands your culture more than I do.

Why do guys get mad when people say that they should provide for their woman, grow up, then say the same thing to their daughters later?
