Should I give this guy a chance?

I met a guy via a dating site. We talked once but haven't gone on a date yet. He seems nice but...

He is 50 years old. He said he's only been out of jail/prison for 4 years. He was in for selling drugs according to him.

Since getting out he works in maintenance but is attending night school to become an engineer. Has 2 adult children. He was very strong in is liking me etc based off my profile picture and bio.

My friend who is a guy said to run away from him. But I wonder what if he's turned his life around?

Should I run or try to get to know him more?

My instict tells me he might be an ok guy but that it's really not a good fit and to leave the situation alone.

I just feel bad because I tend believe in 2nd chances... though maybe not with me.

Nothing wrong with a date, but consider these extra safety measures.

* Meet him in public at a busy restaurant.
* Do not let him pick you up or know where you live.
* Arrive a half hour before the chosen time, or 15 minutes after.
* No matter how good the date goes, do NOT go home with him.
* Take your own Uber or ride share home, do not ride with him.
* For extra protection, turn on a tracking program on your phone and have your best friend monitor your location until you're safely home, then call her/him.

By the way, this is good advice for any woman on a first date with ANYONE they meet on a dating mate. Doesn't matter if the guy's never been in prison or he's the CEO of a well-known company, or your average guy.

Okay. I made a career working with convicted felons and I can tell you that while very rare, some actually do reform.
You need to be cautious, especially at first. Meet in public and stay in public for the first few dates. If your gut tells you there is a problem, then there is a problem. If your gut does not tell you there is a problem, there might still be a problem.
Don't judge him for what he did. I do not know anyone over the age of twenty one that hasn't done something that could put them in prison. He might just be a decent guy that made a bad choice.
He might not be a decent guy also and don't forget that.
