What was it like in the '80s?

There was no social media; You had to call a girl on the phone and ask if she would go out with you. A LDR consisted of writing letters and sending them through the mail. No email and log distance phone calls were expensive.
You did not find people online. You had to go to clubs or meet them in school or at some other activity. Sometimes you could get a friend to set you up with somebody.
It made you do the work and it gave you the opportunity to really get to know somebody.

okay- once upon a time I met a girl at the beach one Memorial Day weekend. I thought she had the prettiest smile I ever saw. I stopped her as she walked past my house and we talked for a while. I found out she lived near me and I found out she just graduated from college. What she wouldn't tell me was her name.
I ended up going to the school she graduated from and looked through the yearbook until I saw her picture. Then I got the phonebook from the town she lived in and looked up her phone number and address. Just to be sure I took a ride past her house and saw her car in the driveway. Old school but it did the trick. We got married 18 months later.
