+1 yThere is no such thing as an accident. She knew enough about the father to make an informed decision about his suitability to raise kids with long term. Even if it was a one night stand, a man who disrespects women enough to go through with that and has such little regard for long term consequences when a chance for a night of fun with a stranger presents itself is not likely to be a wonderful father or partner, as I guarantee there will be other strangers he’s having fun with at some point. Almost every single birth control option on the market at time of writing is exclusively the woman’s choice. The mother is the only one who gets a say in keeping it or not. I don’t feel bad for women who don’t use or insist that the man use birth control, exercise their sole discretion to keep it, and then exercise their sole discretion to bring it home at an inconvenient time in their lives, who then expect to unjustly burden a man who had no say in any of this to sweep up the pieces of their hot mess of a life, and give his resources to a daily reminder that someone else impregnated her but he’s left holding the diaper bag. Noooope. Enabling bad decisions made before it was my problem is not an ideal use of my resources. Baby momma drama is not an ideal use of my limited time. Either she has bad taste/judgment in men or is a horrible person herself which caused the involvement with the father to end; either way she is unlikely to be a suitable long term partner.

+1 yThe only time I ever got close to that was when I fell for the mother's kids. They singled me out at the bar and wanted to hang out with me all the time and so I did and thought it was so much fun.
The only problem is that I didn't really like the mother. She wasn't my type. But her kids even asked me to marry their mother and I considered it for a while. Fortunately, she ended up finding a really great guy though that she married instead who was into not only her kids but also her.
If I were single and entertained such a thing, I don't want to jump into the dating. I want to hang out together with the kids and see if they like me as a potential father figure first. It's more important that they accept me than the mother.13 Reply- +1 y
I never shied away from huge responsibilities. They actually tend to make my life better and meaningful, albeit more difficult (I prefer my life to be difficult than easy). At the same time, I don't want to accept a responsibility where I might end up doing a poor job with others far better suited for it. So I want to meet and hang out with her kids first long before we start dating and get an impression if they might accept me and if I might do a decent job helping to raise them. If so, then as a second step, I might entertain the notion of dating the mother.

Yeah that seems like the right way to do it. I wouldn't want to be in a relationship with a woman if her kids don't like me.

@Daviddd5412 Exactly! I think I might be more strongly opinionated this way than usual since my parents divorced while I was growing up and I bounced between my single mother and father. My single mother had a habit of bringing all these strange men into our home -- some of whom weren't friendly at all to me and my little sister making us feel like we were in his way. I never wanted to become one of those guys.

Hell no. Women are disloyal and self centered enough already. There you already have a track record of inability to work on issues- esp if they left quickly after spawning the little turd.
Most single moms want no more kids, so why waste your life being a pathetic beta raising some other man's kids? The kids won't even respect you 9/10, and the girlfriend can discard you easily as you are just some dude who isn't the father of her kids. You're disposable and just being used for security. No hoe is worth that.10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yWell first, like women, every guy is different and there's all different types out there. But in my opinion, if a guy is willing/open to date you as a single mother, then marriage is always a possibility (as the same if you weren't and dating). But it definitely limits your "options" as there are many guys that don't want that. But there are some that are open to it. Just might be a bit harder to find and you might have to put a bit more effort into it (such as approaching guys you're interested in also).
00 ReplyOnly if she had a serious relationship with Jesus, and was a widow. Absolutely not a chance with a woman who had a divorce, or had child out of wedlock. Marriage is til death do we part, and women or man who disrespects that is not worthy of being in another relationship. If you spouse was a garbage person your to blame for that because you chose them.
10 ReplyWe marry with the hope of spending the remainder of our lives together. We date to try to assess our odds of making it till death do us part...
It's going to be difficult getting past the check boxes some guys have. Being upfront would help. Especially if you've made mistakes and are ready for a fresh start.
In the end, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me but it does require more of you than a woman without a child.
Good luck!00 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Dating topic. Honestly there definitely plenty of men who would date and fall in love with a single mom. But lets be honest it is a tough process you have to find the right guy, and its a scary prospect with a child involved. I am dating a single mother now, but her kids are 16 and 17... if they were like 7 and 8 it would be unlikely.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yNo i dont want be some 3rd wheel to some women with baggage and her brats she had with another man who didn't want her or them.
They are good for sex though because they are straight to the point so they usally either 1. not interested in casual sex 2. down for casual sex or 3. desperate to find a man and will do pretty much anything to try and keep one. Luckily there's lots of single moms that fit in last 2 categories. Lol one time this one single mom let me do anal with her on our 1st date00 Reply
+1 yAbsolutely, Single mom's rock
Sure, I know that I can never be her #1 but that's okay too. I can respect that.
I'd love the opportunity to be the coolest step-dad ever. I've dated a few women with kids, it's not always easy but it can be very rewarding... Sadly I've not met the right one yet, one day I still hope to.
Source: Son of single mother who gave a couple of her boyfriends absolute hell over the years... but, my own step-dad's pretty great in his own way.00 Reply313 opinions shared on Dating topic. i remember in high school i had a crush on a classmate, yet i was already dating someone steady for over a year.
That girl ended up pregnant at 14, but I still liked her. Her boy was a douche and broke up with her before her baby was born. We were good friends too, just it never aligned up so we could date each other. So the thought on my head was there at the time, it didn't matter if she had a baby with someone else.00 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI did, We got married, She had 2 kid with another guy, thats not in the picture at all. (Long storry).
and we had 2 more, kids of our own.
Love them all the same,
And probably the best thing to ever happen to me. she's a great wife
and we have a beautiful family10 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI just want my own family that's all. I don't want to feel like I stole or that I am the bench warmer behind the real father. I want my own thing and I wouldn't even feel comforted raising the kid. Like who am I to say what is right and wrong for some else's child.
00 Reply2.9K opinions shared on Dating topic. That depends. If she had a kid with her ex husband or a guy who she was in a long term relationship with, then maybe. If she had a kid with some low-life loser, criminal, drug addict, random guy, fuck buddy, guy she didn't live with or wasn't in a serious relationship with, then no. I don't need to be in a relationship with a woman who makes poor life decisions.

+1 yFriendship are OK but relationships with them No way. Most single mothers are Lurking around with her kids baby daddy’s or more. It’s rare to find a single mother who’s not talking to them. Most of those mothers are friends with benefits with them and risking on getting pregnant again.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yShe's not a first option no. It's not personal, but ask yourself would a homeless guy be your first choice? The assumption is a homeless guy is homeless for a reason. He's made life choices that lead him to that. Well it's the same with a single mom. It didn't just happen. Choices led her to that point. Again, this isn't personal.

+1 yDepends on a lot of things
I would certainly like to also have my own genetic children but at the same time if she seems up my alley then it's a possibility
However I'd prefer still prefer to not date a single mother00 Reply- 547 opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yI understand that people will always be people and they do make mistakes. But regardless the most important thing is that we can learn from them.
So long as you treat me well and you treat your kids well I’d be willing to give you a chance if we were compatible00 Reply
+1 yWell yes it happens, plenty of guys n girls marry after a divorce.
Plenty guys marry single mums and girls marry single dads.
it’s down to the individuals themselves.10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yFor me it would depend did she loose her spouse through accident or illness, or is she a single mother because she could not be bothered to use one of the 30+ methods of contraception available to her (that includes the guy wearing a condom).
If the former - Yes.
If the Latter - No.00 Reply16.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. There are always some simps who are willing to do that because they don't have better options. Few men want to raise someone else's kids (especially more than one).
10 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Dating topic. Age dependent , its certainly possible , there are differing stages of life.. If I were 23 ? Id date her sure , but Id make sure things were not too clingy , I actually did this back then.

+1 yI probably would if I liked her, but it would depend on how close she is with the biological father. Its difficult to develop a relationship with the bio dad coming and going.

+1 yNot interested in that at all.
I don't wan't to be a dad to the point where I don't even trust birth control or condoms as effective prevention, and I don't want some other guy involved in my relationship with a woman.00 Reply 453 opinions shared on Dating topic. Sexual and reproductive exclusivity is very important for men from an evolution point of view and a single mother has neither.

+1 yMost men won't marry a single mom. The ones that are left you should be highly suspect of. They have super low self esteem or ulterior motives. Combine this together and most single moms... stay single moms.
