Is it possible for a guy to be "just friends" with his ex?

My boyfriend wants me to introduce to his ex. He says they are just friends now. I saw her photo and she is hot as crazy. I think getting my boyfriend to meet her is a dangerous idea. My boyfriend says not to worry she is a real nice lady.
Any ladies here with similar experience?
Why should a hot girl continue to be "just friends" with the guy she broke up with?
Something doesn't add up, or is it just me?

I am not friends with any of my exes because I do not like them they are my exes for a reason.

and in reality no mail ever has a female in his life outside of family that he does not want to have sex with.
