Honestly, there are so many better dates than a restaurant. I'm pretty shy, so the concept of just sitting face to face with a stranger on a first date and talking for hours is intimidating. I like things like bowling, or a scenic walk. Studies have shown that it's easier to open up to someone if you're walking side by side than if you're sitting face to face.

Money doesn't matter. As long as the idea is one that allows you to get to know each other, you're good.

Not important. In fact, when my husband and I were dating he was a poor grad student and I already had a well established career making good money. Consequently if we went anywhere really expensive I was the one who paid for it (which I was perfectly fine about)

Not important at all. I think what's more impressive is if a guy is really interested in getting to know me. If it develops into a relationship, then both people should be giving gifts and planning special dates (special = thoughtful).
