Is financial differences a real issue for guys in a relationship?

I was dating a guy for 6 months. He grew up poor and finished school later than others (he’s 31) and was jobless besides odd jobs in between. But he just finished law school but is struggling and in debt and poor and can’t find work. He always felt insecure because he felt behind and too poor, and he believes I’m from a wealthy family and I also make basically a 3-figure income. My family isn’t rich rich, just middle class but guys always consider me high maintenance and high end because I like nice things, always have my hair and makeup done, wear expensive clothes, etc. It’s just my preference in how I carry myself and I know I give off a vibe of being rich but I don’t consider myself above anyone or judge others.
After some back and forth he broke things off with me because he said we’re on different timelines, he was in debt and jobless and I made him feel worse and it was like fitting a square into a circle because he thinks I’m out of his league or something. I’ve tried telling him how much I love him but he’s so down on himself. He still watches my Instagram daily, it’s been weeks…. You think he’ll find his way back once he makes something of himself and feels better?
