I dont want a subserviant or meek woman in my life.

Wives who encourage you to grow and help nurture your best qualities are the golden standard.

That said, 'submit', in this sense, is not meant how it's heard by modern ears.
There's a lot of religious and historical context behind the meaning of the phrase and modern people aren't generally religious.

People always look at this wrong.

Couples are supposed to submit to eachother. You are supposed to do things for your SO out of love, because you want to, not out of obligation/duty. If the idea of your SO being unhappy does not upset you, then break up.
