Think of what you want him to do (what would make him more interesting), and see if he's interested in doing that. If you're not meant to be, you're not meant to be, but it's better to make sure of that first.

Remember that it's often hard to find a potential partner, and it's unwise to throw away what you've already got unless you know you don't need it.

Well you have two choices;

1. Slow walk the relationship and phase him out over time.

2. Tell him the truth and deal with it, and get it over quickly or work it out.

If you like him try to motivate him to do things. Maybe one week something you enjoy, then the next something he enjoys. You might each find new things you like, or likes that you did not know you share. I have a love of museums and art now because of a girl I dated.
