I have been in a relationship for 6 months. I really like the guy, kind of love him actually. He clicks a lot of my boxes that I want for a partner. However there is a HUGE issue…. his ex wife. He shares custody of their son with her. In the first few months she didn’t cause any issues with us. Then after me and my boyfriend had a birthday for her son since we were not invited to hers she decided she didn’t want me around her son. To keep the peace my boyfriend has done what she has asked and kept his son away from me. He would stay at a friends or he would stay with her just to be able to see his son over the summer. Or I would make sure to stay away from him home when I knew they would be there. Well then she came at me personally this past week. Posted her son and him as her profile picture and then made it so I would see this change on her Facebook because I am not friends with her on it and neither is my boyfriend. Well today is our local fair and he has been on vacation. Our hope was to meet up today and be able to spend it together. And he was gonna sneak his son there for us all to be together. Yet that’s not how thing went down. She demanded he go with her and he never told me this. Instead I turn around at fair and find them at standing behind me. My boyfriend doesn’t say anything to me until I saw hi. Then he says how’s it going? I walked over to his side under the eye of his ex. He hugged me and I whispered to him, is that your ex? He said yes, I said should I say hi. He said no…I said do you want me to walk away…he said yea…so I did. They hung around a bit longer and even stood the same line as us in one ride a few people ahead of me. My boyfriend would not look my way although his ex had no problems looking at me every few minutes.
What to do when my boyfriend won’t stand up to his ex wife?

He eventually left the line to go sit on a bench looking off into the distance. She was talking to him from the line and I made no effort it go up to him again. Eventually when she and his son went on the ride he got up, walked to the exit and finally looked at me, giving me a slight sad smile. They got off the ride and disappeared and didn’t see them again. He hasn’t talked to me or reached out to me about the matter.

I just don’t understand why he doesn’t defend me or stand up to her…is he so worried about losing access to his son?
