What's the deal breaker: friends, family, or pets not liking your potential partner?

For me, it's any of the above.. I will never tell my partner to choose between myself and their loved ones.. But I will also not put myself in another situation to be disliked and disrespected.. I was in a past relationship where the entire family hated me (due to race) and it eventually ruined the relationship because we were both too immature at that time to solve the problems.

Now that I am older and wiser, I realize that I could've prevented most of it by not ignoring the red flags and walking away at the first signs of disrespect lol.

Friends and family? It really depends who's making the judgement, some of them are trustworthy and some of them not so much. But if EVERYONE says my partner sucks, then my partner probably sucks.

Friends. Pets can be kind of weird, and family members are a little too interested in the outcome of relationships to be a helpful measure.

But friends are perfect. They aren't THAT interested in the outcome of the relationship, so they aren't going to sugarcoat things, they know what [your partner]'s previous relationships were like, and they provide a perfect tapestry of the kind of person your partner is to anyone who doesn't want to bang them.

If all your girlfriends seem to have a habit of constantly dating assholes who happen to be secretly married; that’s a statement about you, after a certain point. Friend groups are just a combined picture of who we are, without the rose-tinted glasses of sexual attraction.

I don't have close friends at the moment, and the pets at my house are kinda poorly socialized so they're generally skittish around people. But the husky and one of our cats are pretty chill, so I'd be a little concerned if it was them.
