I think I’ve either just tried it to see how it went, or I was honest in a very deep deeppppppp and honest way. I just became deathly honest about myself and gave some options and just kinda worked through it with them because I always cared that much.

Sometimes they understood, and sometimes we kept in contact until they stopped, and let the chats die down and “got over me” lol

or, they were offended and then ignored me from that moment on, and were a bit harsh if I would reach out afterward.

Either way, we had understanding and I let them heal and live their best lives.

They knew more than anyone that there were plenty of fish in the sea lol

That solution would be the coward way to say no. If you have a little dignity in yourself, then you just say no upfront and don't go ghosting people simply because you lack the courage to express your opinions.

I would never give the wrong reply to get out of this uncomfortable situation because it is simply not part of my character.

If you say no right away, the person may feel offended or angry with you but if you first agree, just to ghost him/her, not only may he be angry and offended but also, he will realize that you lack character and personality.

It depends. If you unmatch solely because he wants to meetup and you're not ready for it quite yet, then it's kind of cowardly. You can be honest with them and if he agrees, great.
