Do you think long-distance relationships will work out in the long run?

So this guy and I are not in a relationship at the moment but this question is if we become official. He found me on Instagram and added me and liked a few of my pictures and commented “ pretty little thing 🦋”. We have been messaging each other for a couple of days now and I'm really getting to know him and I'm starting to really like him. He is starting to get a little more flirty in the messages but nothing sexual. He is 3 years older than me and more mature than the guys my age. The problem is that he is across the country. I'm in Florida and he is in California. He was asking if I had any fun things planned tonight and I said not around here. He stated I could go see him and he would take me on dates. Again he never said anything sexual. I'm here overthinking if this is moving too fast or if I'm just being dramatic. I've never been to California and that would be nice to visit there but I think I would definitely have to get to know him more before I visit him. We so far only text on Instagram. We haven't called each other or video chatted. He has been asking lots of questions to try to get to know me. Any advice would be helpful and thanks in advance.
