For those of you who don’t know what I mean by the Ivy Leagues, the Ivy League colleges are an elite group of colleges that are considered the best of the best colleges in the United States.

It doesn't hurt to apply. Some of those ivy league schools are good and some are no better than no-name colleges. Being an ivy league school in itself doesn't mean much.
Choose your profession/major first, then find out which schools have a good reputation for that profession. People working in that field know which schools are good, and sometimes the best schools are places you never heard of. A few people are impressed by a big name school, but the large majority don't give a shit.
Go ahead and apply if you want. It costs money to apply, but if you don't care about the money, go for it.
Just don't let your ego get in the way of a good education. I've been to six colleges, and some ARE better than others. But mostly it's what you make of it. The more work you put in, the more you'll learn. It's entirely up to you how much you learn.A big name school MIGHT help you get your first job. It could also hurt getting your first job. Either way, as soon as you show up for your first day of work is when your real education starts. After that first job, your experience is what matters, not the school you went to.

An ivy league school is no better in the long run than a local community College. Please do not feel like thentrajectory of your life is determined by which college you go to. This is a common lie told to society and it's BS.
Hell, I live by the top tier schools of this country. Guess who teaches at the community colleges? The same teachers as the top tier school. Oh, and the course materials are exactly the same as the ivy league schools. My professors have told us themselves.
All an ivy league school is is a fancy expensive brand name at best.09 Reply- 11 mo
That's a lie. There is a lot of prestige with going to an Ivy League school.

It's not needed, but it's a huge boost.

You're entitled to your own opinion, as wrong as it might be.

I actually do go to a community college at the moment, but I’m doing research on other schools to figure out where I should go in order to continue my education.

I appreciate the advice, but there’s no need for name calling just because their opinion differs from yours. If you’re going to be disrespectful, please leave my comment section. Thank you.

Yea. You absolutely should apply but also know the Ivy League schools are considered, by many, especially in the business world, to be coasting on their past reputation for some time now. They have lost their prestige and reputation in many, many, circles. Plus, the price tag for many of those schools returns far less than the social connections and networking provide. In other-words - the most successful from those schools tend to ironically have also been quite well connected before they even entered. Depending what kid of pursuits lay ahead for you in life you may be just as well going to another school.
10 Reply I suppose you should as long as you can afford to go financially. Having said that, the quality of Ivy League educations has gone so far down over the last 20 years - especially the last 10 - that it's flat-out shocking. Half the professors are absolutely lunatics who have completely abandoned science and reason for ideology and propaganda.
I suppose there is still SOME cachet from being classmates with other Ivy Leaguers, which has always been a big part of going to those colleges, but I know in the business world, the value of an Ivy League degree has gone way, WAY down. At one time, they used to represent people with the very best education, but that's just not how they are seen anymore. The academic rot is only starting to be exposed, and it goes far deeper than anyone imagined.
10 ReplyThey're only the "best" for the purposes of networking. The quality of education in those schools is broadly unremarkable, not really any better than most recognizable universities. People go there to make connections, and ride the "Graduated from ______" title and little else.

Yes, if they can meet the Ivies' strict academic requirements. ( Also, I believe Yale and /or Harvard, with a 42 BILLION-dollar endowment, waives tuition for scholastically-deserving entrants, the only was someone such as I,165 IQ and all, could have gotten into an Ivy, since my father worked as a slaughterhouse butcher from 1956-1963 when he was laid off from Ford Of Canada, where he resumed working from 1963 until his 1980 retirement;he started at Ford Motor Company in 1943.)

Given current events, and what has happened at ivy league schools in recent years, I don't know why anyone would even want to attend an ivy league school anymore. Talk about a fall from grace. The ONLY thing these schools have had over other schools is their reputation, and they no longer have that. Why spend the extra money on them?

I applied for a college well above my test scores and GPA. Turns out, it was the only college who accepted me. I think they felt bad or something. I graduated with my baccalaureate from there.
10 Reply I applied to Cambridge University despite it being reasonably certain I wouldn't get in. I got an offer of a place but didn't get the A Levels I needed.

11 moAs long as you can afford to go if you are accepted, trying to apply for places you might not get in can be worth a punt

20 ReplyThe Ivy League teaches DEI “economics” , gender theory, and Marxism… They are the worst universities in the USA. Only retards would pursue an education at such low class schools.

Well for one it’s been proven several times over that that’s not the case. Two, don’t use slurs like that in my comment section. Either be respectful or leave.

Yes, my mindset is that you only live once with nothing to lose but everything to gain with bold moves, following challenges and obstacles to make it work.

10 Reply885 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. The only point of ivy league is for networking. Other than that it's just burning money.

No. Just like regular kids shouldn't take AP classes. It MEANT to be exclusive. Besides, I think over half of the kids now are legacies anyway.

What, so just because someone applies even if they don’t think they’ll get in they aren’t taking it seriously?
- 11 mo
you did not say "I think I won't get in"
you did say "I KNOW I won't get in"
being undecisive is not a trait for the very best... it would be a waste of time, also... with that kind of uncertainty, you would be signing for a few years of tremendous amounts of pressure to excel
it's just not worth it - 11 mo
I said “THEY know THEY LIKELY won’t get in”. That’s very different from knowing you won’t get in. Ivy leagues have like a less then 10% acceptance rate, so even the best students know they likely won’t get in.
- 11 mo
even those who know that can get in... most won't get in
at the elite you're asked to excel... not to hesitate and doubt yourself
