My boyfriend has thrown in my face how much he has paid for and how he didn’t expect to be doing all for this and that how he doesn’t want to. He wants everything 50/50. Which I agree with I just wasn’t working at the time. Now I am working and I want to do my things my way and he is suggesting his way still.

He liked having that leverage over you, trying to make you feel like you owe him so that he can have more control over you.


Now that he lost that leverage, he doesn’t like it.


Sure maybe part of him didn’t like paying for things. But for him, it gave him more control of you, which made it worth it to him.


I personally believe that power and control in relationships can be consensually negotiated. If it’s what a couple wants, they totally can, but everyone needs to be in agreement and on the same page.


But going about it in a manipulative way, trying to seize power and maintain control without prior agreement or consent is kinda toxic. 😬

I see red flags, but I admit I'm biased on this whole 50/50 shit if you're in a committed relationship. If you're still dancing around with each other, that's different. But here's the thing:

#1) when you were unemployed, he made sure you felt guilty about how much he was spending on you, knowing FULL well you had no money to contribute. Only a shithead does that.
#2) now that you ARE ABLE to contribute financially, he still wants to do things HIS way, but expects you to pay half. Very controlling, and that's a real narcissist tendency.

This isn't going to get better with age, girl. Eyes open wide.
