When do you ask for a second date?

I'm curious to hear what is typical of asking for a second date (I guess this would apply more for guys). I've done it to where I'd ask at the end of the date, texted, and just asked next time I saw them. Im wondering when is the best time to ask? What do you do?

At the end of the date

Texting sometime after the date

Asking in person at another time you see them

Sigh... OK. Once again dating is a skill. Use this technique and it usually works.

Call her (NOT TEXT) the next day. Expect to stay on the phone for about 60 seconds. Simply ask if she is OK (if she got drunk), and got home OK (if she drove herself.) Listen to her tone and attitude. If she sounds happy to hear from you will arrange something else fun for another date with her. Do not ask her out during that call. You can call again in a day or two with a date request.

If she is distant or flat-out cold. End the call and get on with your life. NEXT!!!

Either way, the call is classy, masculine, and positive. She will not hate your making it.

The day after the date via text

Before my marriage, in the 1990s, I would have said on the third day after the date by phone, to give her time to miss me at least a bit and phone is more personal. (Imagine!)

However, when I started dating again a few years ago, I learned that you need to be a lot faster now, otherwise she might have had other dates in between or she might assume you are not interested. Plus, she might be caught on the wrong foot by a voice call and it will not be the best experience for her. I'm a fast learner, though.

Actually, your phone has a feature you can use to contact someone and have a voice-to-voice conversation. That is much more effective than using the cowardly method of texting. I call and talk to a lady and ask for a second date not later than Tuesday night, if I am suggesting a date on Friday or Saturday night. It's a very effective means of communicating!

More irony - - - - The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry used to have excellent displays in the 50's and 60's. In the Hall of Communications, they had a Bell prototypical Videophone the size of an orange crate at each end of the hall, and people could talk to each with (gasp!) a picture to boot! But, imagine- within our lifetime, we put a man on the moon- using a quadruple redundant computer system- yet which still had only a tiny fraction of the computing power of the crappiest cellphone we can buy today! For example: "The Apollo Guidance Computer was fairly compact for a computer of its time. The CM [Command Module] housed the computer in a lower equipment bay, near the navigator's station. Block II measured 24 by 12.5 by 6 inches, weighed 70.1 pounds, and required 70 watts at 28 volts DC. The machine in the lunar module was identical." Try and get THAT in your back pocket, kids.

If the date went well, tell her at the end of the date that you enjoyed the date and would like to see her again. If she agrees, tell her that you will call her... then do that a day or two later... don't be too eager... and arrange a second date.
