Girls, is a man being taller than you *inherently* attractive to you, or is it only attractive to you because of how they’d look standing next to you?

This question is specifically for women that are attracted to men being taller than them. Like what if a guy you were seeing was  (by a few inches)  shorter than you  behind closed doors , but taller than you  in public  ‘cause they always wore a heel or something? My partner and I were trying to figure this out ‘cause she’s never cared about height so we’re both perplexed by this thought experiment. Side anecdote:  I'm 5'2 1/2 and an old partner of mine was 6'3 (she did modelling as you might expect lol). I remember we used to get smiles and comments on the street like  “you guys are such a cute couple”  from women   all the time, which might sound nice but it actually got to the point of being annoying and denormalising. Hence it's clearly something apparent to public consciousness in women particularly, which further begs my above question.

If a guy is good looking he gets past the first stage of preliminary attraction screening but he needs a good heart to pass the next several stages and if a guy fails the first stage by being unattractive in some way, he can get a free pass by having other good qualities. The reason many marriages with good looking people are short term is that there relationship was based on physical attraction which becomes worthless over time because you adapt to the beauty and their beauty fails to bring you delight and pleasure. Some pleasures grow over time and some weaken over time.

Height doesn't affect my attraction.

That said, I'm in a "short enby needs tall bottom girlfriend" phase so I'd like a taller woman. But at 5'1" nearly everyone is taller than me.

So I'm also probably not the best judge. Because, y'know, everyone is taller than me.

It has to do with feeling protected. I won't feel protected by a man that is my height or shorter but i'm only 5'2 so he doesn't need to be tall lol. My crush is avarage height (5'9 ish) and that's good:)
