Which has been a better war for defense contractors, Ukraine or Afghanistan?

Ukraine and Afghanistan have both been very prolonged wars with no victory in sight for either side. Afghanistan finally ended after 20 years and Ukraine started up and looks like it won't end for a very long time. This has been a real windfall for US defense contractors who is taking huge amounts of money from the US Treasury to finance US involvement in these wars. So which war has been better for them so far in terms of money made?

Depends how long the Ukraine war lasts. Frankly I NEVER expected the war to last more than a few weeks. This war has shown was a paper tiger the Russian conventional forces are.

Certainly the defense contractors are the big winners no matter what.

Afghanistan was largely a bust for defence contractors, US special forces had largely beaten the Taliban and alqueda in the first few months and there was no real money to be made.

Now the invasion and occupation of Iraq is where defence contractors made money. All the bombs dropped, deployed armor, helicopters, aircraft drones, new specialised equipment to protect troops, the rebuild, arming and training the iraqi military, the fact that there were 3 mercenary security troops for every 1 us soldier at one point, oil contracts etc. Then the ISIS thing. Big money.

There's money being made in Ukraine. The US is selling all its old military equipment to Ukraine for which they will have to pay for over decades and the US is replacing all its cold war era equipment with new modern equipment. Think of almost any current us equipment and I guarantee you that if its pre 2000 its being replaced.

The Ukraine war has given the justification for the biggest rearmament of the US military since the 80s. So this is where defence contractors will make their money, not on the Ukraine war itself.

I say Afghanistan. Biden left 80 billion dollars worth of weapons, tanks, helicopters, humvees and pieces of artillery as well as rifles and ammo. All this had to be replaced so the contractors cleaned up twice.

Most of the equipment was broken and besidesm he had to leave it there so that the right-wing defense contractors could replace it and line their pockets yet again.

Ukraine might be better, at this point, because it has proper NATO backing. I don't think Afghanistan was ever really met with international approval.

I beg to differ. I think the US is more violent than Afghanistan, but other than that you might be right. I'm not an expert on war so I will defer to people who know more about this than I do.

It's true. It was more statistically dangerous to live in South detroit chicago or L. A than to serve as a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan at the height of the war on terror.
