I didn’t say anything. Everyone knew my father had been cheating on my mum all throughout the marriage, so when I twigged something was going on with her, I didn’t say anything to him. He was abusive anyway. He has no idea to this day.
What I hated was my mother lying to me about it, and then expecting me to be ok with it when I realised. I felt so bad for the man’s wife. She was a lovely woman. A friend of the family who’d helped us out in the past. I wonder what she would have thought of the situation if she’d found out. And I hate that my mum doesn’t seem to have any regret or a conscience.11 Reply

+1 yI probably wouldn't. From the very early age I had a sense of responsibility and I would assume that interfering in my parents relationship could hit me back really hard.
But I would talk to my mother.

1.4K opinions shared on Dating topic. My daughter knew for years that mom was cheating on me. She never told me, because mom intimidated her into not telling me. And then she like her mother, used her knowledge to black mail her mother. It was twisted as hell, but my ex-wife was more manipulative then I even suspected any one person could be.
But it really fucked up my daughter. Because from the age of 14 to 22 years old she had to carry the guilt with her every day. She put up barriers and walls between us, and it created a lot of turmoil. Which I honestly never understood, until much later after I found out.
But she was so scared of her mother she never told me until after the divorce, because her therapist recommended that she do so, as part of her treatment.
So it is easy to say totally daughter should tell, but honestly, she is a child being put into a very adult situation, and way before she could be prepared to deal with it. It easy to say what you think you would do... but until your faced with that situation you have no clue.
Now my daughter was a minor, and I forgive her for everything, because that never should have happened to her. But if my daughter was an adult... fuck yeah, she should of said something.

+1 yHypothetically, I would talk to my mother, and I’d ask her to make sure dad doesn’t get hurt,
My dad is just as loyal, sensitive and loving as I am, I’d know that he’d be very hurt to hear if mom was cheating. I wouldn’t want to see him hurt.
I’d also try to avoid, participating in my parents’ personal life.
But I’d talk to my mom and ask her to make sure whatever she does, she won’t hurt my dad’s feelings and that hopefully, she’ll either tell dad herself or finish her affair.
As for dad, I’d try to spend more time with him, to make sure, he was happy and felt like his family is there for him.

u +1 yBefore you tell your dad, you need to have some proof to show him. If you just tell him what you think, he will ask mom, she'll probably deny it in convincing fashion, he'll want to believe her, and then you become their common enemy.

+1 yI bet all those girls wouldn’t hesitate to tell their moms if there dads are cheating on them. Why is treatment of this so different. I saw a comment where one of those girls said she was happy that her mom was cheating “up” I guess. What kind of degenerate society do we live in that we can praise a person for cheating just because of whatever. Sickening.

+1 yTough spot to be in. Sorry you’re dealing with this. I’d approach your mom first and tell her that you’re going to break the news to your dad. That’ll be fun so be prepared for that emotional rollercoaster. Then approach your dad and give him the full rundown. Best of luck to you and your family.

+1 yI have already before with my step-father when I caught my mother cheating on him at ten years old. She didn't know I had known of it until I told him, but she never gave me shit for it fortunately - only my older sister did.
I think now that I am older I would confront her about it and what I do next depends on what happens in that conversation.01 Reply- +1 y
@kelly6 Responding here to not clog that guy's replies that you accidentally replied to.
It is, but also a fortunate situation compared to others. If a kid is ridiculed for leaking it or forced keep it a secret, then they get traumatized by it. I wasn't impacted much other than mildly fearing she'd do it again. She is an amazing mother, so it made up for her mistake.

+1 yDepends on how close you are with your parents and what you think you know about their relationship. If you want to talk to your mom about, do that, but if you're a grown woman and it doesn't affect you personally, I'd be inclined to mind my own business.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yMy mom is already kind of cheating on my dad but i don't want to be involved in that so I won't tell him anything.
Also i know the reasons. She hasn't had sex with anyone else she is just having some fun.20 ReplyInformation that is given, is a damage can potentially cannot be undone. I would talk to the mom and let the mom apologize. If the kid rats out the mom, She loses mom as a parent most likely and the Dad looks at the wife at a way worse light as she didn't inform her husband about the cheating.
Talk to the mom about her action let her decide to apologize and say the truth or correct action.

30 Reply No, I wouldn’t. My mom is currently cheating on my stepdad and I actually love it for her! She’s cheating with a rich man, my current stepdad is poor and unhygienic.
22 Reply565 opinions shared on Dating topic. Nah. Thing is my mom wants to be stupid, so when she fks up and he'd find out... well that's on her.
10 Reply2.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. No. I would only tell her if he was cheating, because I believe that women are entitled to more freedom in their relationships than men.
10 Reply312 opinions shared on Dating topic. For me this won't happen... I am a person that if it will hurt them and I know something I will tell them ( even if they hate me after). Knowing the truth... and he doesn't is the most hurtful thing for him.

@Jamie05rhs I think she suspected it anyway and I don't know how it came about but the next thing I knew he was moving out.
