Means absolutely nothing. Does it mean anything when you are on your phone and someone passes you by? Nope. So it means nothing here either. He is just on his phone like most people are these days. Walk around today and take a look at how many people are glued to their phones. There are even stories of people walking into traffic or even other people. Heck people have been hit by cars for not paying attention to where they are at because social media this or that is more important to them.

It simply means that he is an addict of his smartphone. That is nothing new with today's generation of youth that have no other means of distraction than to be glued on their smartphones.

I would say that you should distance yourself from him because clearly, he will always favor his smartphone over you and he will see you more of a nuisance since you have no buttons to press or screen to gawk at.

Isn't it sad that people are married to their smartphone and barely take the time to talk with each other? it is already bad enough that most youngsters do no longer know how to write a text without making mistakes but soon, they will also lose the ability to talk.
