Why does my crush pretend to be on his phone when we make eye contact and walk past each other?

I liked this guy that goes to my school and rides my bus for about a year. We never spoke but had close encounters and made so much eye contact before there’s tension. He used to do small things to try to get my attention like ask rhetorical questions out loud when just me around or “accidentally” hit my bus seat múltiple times. I would also catch him looking at me and my friend said the same before. One time I walked past him and he did a double take on me. His friends also look at me all the time and they get quiet when I walk around. He recently got a girlfriend and I’m trying to let him go but we keep bumping into each other randomly and now whenever we see each other, he’s looking up first till he notices me then quickly pulls his phone out and acts like he’s using it. What’s the deal with this guy and his friends? Sorry for long description just need advice <3

Also I don’t know him personally but I know for sure he’s not shy, he’s well known and has a confident personality. But I feel like with only me he acts this way. I’m torn if he’s attracted to me or if he thinks i’m so ugly he doesn’t even want to look at me.
