I think a woman tried to catfish me on OKCupid using photos of another real local woman? Should I identify the real person & let her know?

So here is the timeline of events:

  • I comment on a OKC girl’s profile. She responds and we start a conversation.
  • I give her the my phone number and she texts me from a local number
  • I notice a day later her OKC profile goes away
  • We chat daily for 4 days straight. No nudes, no explicit sexual talk. Flirty and teasing. But also about real life stuff including work and hobbies.
  • All of her photos appear to be legitimate and local. I live in a mountainous state and her pics show that accurately in the background.
  • She references several local landmarks/towns in our conversation. She’s familiar with the area.
  • Two days ago I text her saying I would like to call her in the evening. She seemed excited about it. I gave her an exact time to expect my call. She says she will be available. I plan on asking her on a date over the phone.
  • Phone call goes straight to VM that evening. I called right at the time I said I would.
  • I initially didn’t think much of it. Figured something came up for her. I texted her saying I tried to call that evening. No response.
  • I haven’t heard from her since. She was texting me (often first) for 4 straight days before that.
  • I do a reverse phone number look up on white pages. Phone number looks to belong to a 41 year old woman w/ a different name. The person I spoke to earlier claimed to be 26 (looks it in her photos). White pages isn’t always accurate but made more suspicious.

Anyway I had my guard up the entire time she might be fake. She’s attractive, younger and seemed much more interested in me vs most girls I have connected with in the past on dating apps. Seemed a little too good to be true but not impossible so I was cautiously optimistic. There wasn’t any OF link bs or anything else either.

But now I’m convinced that this most likely a catfish. They got scared of being found out when I asked for a phone call.

I could use the photos she sent me to try to identify the real person and let her know. Is it worth it?

Update: she texted me back this afternoon saying her phone was “frizzled” (oldest bs girl excuse in the book) but wanted to set up a time to talk this evening.

I plan text her back tomorrow. She might be real but I don’t like giving off the impression I’m too available. I’m not anyway because I work a side hustle on the weekends. Not in a good mood. But tomorrow might work out.

Update: we talked today and she’s very real. She sounded 26 too. We have a date planned next week.

Also for all you judgmental morons saying “oh go meet people in person” please STFU. I work two jobs and am dedicated to a martial art in my free time. It’s not like I’m 22 and living on a college campus. So again STFU. Thank you.
