I think there are two types of players:

1. Silly ones that get easily noticed.
2. Smart ones that are harder to identify, behind their charming and sweet disguise

How do you spot the latter and realize he’s not your average nice guy you thought he was?

If you notice they're giving lots of compliments or getting physically close, but they're not asking you questions about yourself or engaging in conversation, you might be dealing with a player. These types of people are not focused on taking relationships to another level and simply just want to have fun.

Consider the player's life story.

Share your own story.

Talk about past relationships.

Defend your own innocence.

One thing I doubt a player would generally do is introduce you to his closest people like his best friends, family, colleagues, since that seems too disruptive to the double lives that players live. It'd quickly blow their cover especially if you start befriending them.

I've actually been accused of being a player before when I was a bachelor and I wasn't (although a bit of a serial monogamist). I thought that was obvious since I introduced each woman I dated to my closest friends right away. I wouldn't do that if I was a player with multiple partners at a time; that would be too messy and difficult to manage.

Men are in flux just as much as women. Just because someone is not a player when you meet them doesn't mean they will never be one. You can create a player by overfeeding his ego. This does not work in reverse, however - there's a sort of entropy to it and the only real way to stop a player from being a player is to cycle back through their upbringing to root out the insecurity. But that often takes too much effort, compounded by them being largely unwilling to hold up their end. Why would they when they believe they have what they want, already? Their mental efforts are thus bent towards continuing to want it by reinforcing the perception of its value rather than wanting something better.
