That's a tough call bc the stress of losing the job is obvi going to affect his ability to be lighthearted, etc. etc. since he's presumably preoccupied with work. If he has enough rainy day savings set aside and he's already with a girl he loves and trusts then perhaps it's ok to keep dating her. But it's probably not advisable to START dating new people and have to offer the lame "I'm in between projects right now" (which no one buys, by the way). in my opinion it would be a financial strain, like trying to buy a new car (or other luxury item) when you're counting your pennies to cover basic costs.
While having someone you love to be there to support you is a necessity... being in the dating rat race isn't.
Good insight @DishLady. Work can be closely tied to a man’s feeling of worth and self esteem. It’s not just financial and you are exactly right about it impacts his confidence and stress levels. Most men don’t like the feeling of being dead beats (although some are okay with it).
My own job really sucks right now. It used be awesome but ever since we got bought out 4 years ago it’s gotten horrible. We are overworked and underpaid.
I would focus on looking for a new job... or learning new skills for a better job... not on dating...

Not if his intentions is to get another job , I lost my job this past January , I was laid off with a nice severance to buy me time to land another job, sadly it hasn’t been easy , , the job market is not easy today , I am still jobless , but I have a few jobs that are looking good that I might land , it’s been very stressful , so most of my time I been seeking work, I still date girls’ and I consider myself an honest person , I tell them the truth of my situation and they all seem understanding of it , even though I feel like a loser at times , considering it’s taking this long to land a friggin job , the girls’ see that I am making an effort and not just sitting on my ass , so yes you can still date , not all girls’ are gold doggers
It really depends. I think finding someone you genuinely love and whose right can come into your life any any moment. Whether to take a break or not is a personal choice.
Just remember what’s right for one person ain’t necessary right for another
If his financial circumstances are very dire. . . perhaps. Otherwise, just be up front with women and explain the situation. Some will drop you like a hot potato, and some won’t.
No, he shouldn't stop, but considering his economic situation, he should plan cheaper dates.
Depends on the specific situation and what you mean by dating. Ex. Looking to find a new job immediately and expects to be able to support himself normally again in the near future? You're just between jobs, relax, it's a transition period. Looking for a job but have had a lot of trouble finding something? Dating is time-consuming and expensive most of the time, you might need to reprioritize and get your life in order before trying to bring someone else into it. Already in a relationship? You're probably fine, and hopefully your partner will be able to help you to some degree while you find your next job. Casually dating/not particular partner? Most people are hesitant to get involved with someone new if they're not financially stable (worries about being asked for money, expected to pay for everything, provide favors, etc to someone they don't necessarily know all that well), so maybe chill for a little while you get sorted, or steel yourself for a bit of rejection from the people on the more hesitant side.
As long as he's actively seeking to resolve the situation, no he doesn't need to stop dating. But, he probably needs to let the woman he's dating know what the situation is. If he was comfortable with it, I might foot the bill for a dinner out or some tickets to something and invite him. But mostly, since I prefer only an occasional somewhat expensive date, I'd be happy going to the beach, on a picnic, for a hike, staying home and playing games, getting together with friends for a softball game, pot luck friend get together and put on some music, ice cream and people-watching. I like simplicity and focusing on what's important -- just having fun and getting to know each other better. That's what I like, even if he has a job!
Women are generally more materialistic than men. There are very few men that would leave his partner if she lost her job, but the opposite is true for women. Obviously she may stay a while and "support" him, but that sentiment flies fast with females.
Do I think a guy should stop dating entirely because he loses his job? No. Yes a job and income is important, but he's allowed to look for love and companionship in the process. If anything, it might help him filter which girls are the real ones that will stick with him even when he's rock bottom.
Yes, because guys when they lose their jobs are miserable and they just take out their frustrations on the girl who simply wants to love and support them.
They dump all their putrid emotions they can't handle on her then when they feel better they see her as a loser for being with a loser, because they feel that way abut themselves, then dump her for some filter queen on social media who doesn't I've a f*** about them and has three other guys besides him.
Then they wanna MGTOW when she plays them because the girl who stuck by him was "boring" and didn't make him chase or hero instinct blah blah blah.
So yeah, don't date.
They even do this when they have jobs because it doesn't match where their ego believes they should be.
Depends.
If his mental health is shaken and his emotions are low, if the dating helps him focus on something else then maybe that is what he needs depending on the money in the bank.
If he is currently in a relationship he shouldn’t let the job loss be the final nail in the coffin since spending time with the one who gives you support, strength, also admiration regardless of your short comings then she’ll get you back on your horse and able to get back stronger than before with more confidence to get back out there.
I wouldn't stop if I lost my job. That's just an aspect of life and we are all human trying to survive. Who wouldn't be understanding of this situation. We all work and I believe most are obviously going to be working towards getting a job if we lose ours. It happens.
And dating doesn't have to be expensive. There are so many ways to enjoy someone's company without money being involved.
No reason to stop living your life. To be honest some of my best memories were during the times when I didn't have a lot of money. It makes you enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Take nothing for granted.
If he's already with someone, then no big deal. Go find another job and hopefully he's not dating someone like poppy describes and he can weather it until he finds another job. If he's already single, then I wouldn't be actively trying to date until I had income again. Dating costs money and it's not the best use of it at the time.
No but if he loses his job he should focus on his life, if he gathered enough employment insurance, apply for that in the meantime, go to the gym, maybe go on a vacation if he saved money. Take the time to focus and enjoy life. Working 5 days a week, 40 hours, commuting to and from work back home is gruelling. Sometimes losing a job could open more doors, a blessing in disguise. Maybe he takes that time and joins the gym for a few months and meets a woman there. Maybe a trip to Europe he meets a woman there. Maybe he finds a new job and meets a woman there. Focus on himself first in a healthy way with goals in mind and I believe women will look at that and see a strong minded guy who’s ambitious.
I voted yes but I want add until he gets another
Lets be real most women only look at men and see dollar bills and obviously if he ends up with such a woman he gonna have to have money to maintain her lifestyle. So he should take a break and if she is half a decent woman then she would understand... but I dont make the rules
I'm traditional so the answer is yes, obviously. That said, a guy would also be foolish to be spending money on 95% of women in today's world. He should be thinking way more about building his own life up than entertaining women he barely knows or doesn't know at all.
Chances are, and women are going to hate on me for this, both wives and girlfriends will leave a man if he loses his job. In fact that's the cause of something like 45% of female initiated divorces.
So yes, women leave when the man loses his resources, even if she has a job. It's sad because "for better or worse, sickness and in health, for richer or poorer" mean nothing to a lot of women.
I have been st, ruggling with long-term unemployment, and most women are not willing to date me for that reason. I have a master's degree, but my job applications seem to go itno a void without a response. I am physically challenged and can't take just any job, but I can do desk work and am ineligible for Disability. I can't take a job that hasn't been offered to me and for which I have not been allowed to interview, though.
If he already has a partner, then no. They will not break up with him just because he’s lost his job. But if he’s already single, maybe right after he loses his job is not the best time to start dating a bunch of new girls.
No the only reason a men should stop dating is whe hebputs his mom or his siblings for before his girlfriend or wifeejd of story. Once a Men is in a relationship STOP BEING A MOMMYS BOY !
No need, his girlfriend is going to dump him anyway.
He should date because if he finds a good compatible mate when he is unemployed he would know that she is one of the rare ones that actually likes him and isn't there to use him for his money.
A guy should also retire to semi retire from dating at age 30 or especially from after age 31 😄👀😋 in my biased view - I have lol 😆 and I'm grateful to be employed or I'd be employment looking merrily. Life for me ain't just about banging or about riches 😉😈
Not necessarily. But dating costs money and if you don't have it in the form of an income how do you date?
I wouldn't have expectations of others, but I myself would as I like to split bills. I wouldn't want to assume or pull poor mouth.
As long as you still have the funds to date and survive until you pick up a new job no reason to quit dating.
What @DishLady said
Also, if he's able to get another job soon, I don't see an issue
Yeah. Also, if he has other sources of income that helps.
I wouldn't dump a guy for losing his job unless he lost it for being an idiot / doesn't start looking for a job after a reasonable time frame. But I wouldn't date someone without a job.
I'll drop the poor guy on my couch while I make him something. Dates don't have to be fancy eating out every time.
What for? It shouldn't make any difference. Like not at all.
No, I never let a job define who I am. I would never let something like losing a job get in the way of living my life.
I don't think so, although there's nothing, that can be done dating wise without any money involved at all.
I think he should stop for a while. Save his money for necessities until he gets another job.
No. Just don’t become a bum. Actively look for another job.
Probably he should until he gets a new job. Dating is expensive and women will not pay for it at all.
If men are so worried about women using them for their money, why not just stay away from women altogether? It’s a pretty easy thing to do. Also, you can save yourselves the hurt.
Nope. He might get another job fast and even if he doesn't, he may have a savings.
The world is full of jobless people that are dating.
if he's smart, yes...
There are a handful of women who will stick around during times like that…. but those women are the exception. Most women’s love is dependent on you having your shit together.
That's not true tbh
You are free to disagree. Opinions are subjective. They are neither true or false
yes because most women aren't worth for him individually anyway
It shouldn't be a priority but good news is that its going to weed out all the gold diggers.
Get a grip on your life first rather than including other person in your mess
He should set his priorities straight and look for another job, not a woman. 😂
No. Depends on his CAREER not job.
Stop dating? I've never had a job. I'm 49.
no...
Dude has time have priorities
