I don't know. But around me, even plenty of average girls (or even slightly below) (and I'm not just talking looks or appearance, though that could be part of it) don't seem to have big issues with not getting dates... and finding men who would like her.

I mean, my sister is oogly... and a pain in the butt... and she had like three boyfriends in high school, and several in college. She whined about it a lot... and yes, some of the guys were morons (and some were complete jerks), but she could still get asked out more than I could ever dream of (as a guy trying to date women).

Me, I dated one girl in college very briefly (she was not a great person). No one in high school.

Partly it's because generally the men are kind of "forced" Into asking (if anyone will ask anyone else, it usually has to be the guy).

So generally, if you aren't super hard to get along with, if you're average but know how to work whatever you got... you will probably at least get dates, if not boyfriends.

It is rather unlikely. Both guys and girls are quite capable of being ambitious in mating but 'love the one you can get' eventually makes us more realistic.
