Ok so this is based on something I have experienced, and my answer is yes.
I was trying to read a banner form afar and a guy who was standing next to it thought I was staring at him. He saw me a few months after that and I noticed that he was staring at me, I was confused and thought I did something wrong, so I stopped what I was doing. However, he still kept staring so I looked back at him.
So we were basically looking into eachother's eyes, and after around 20-25 seconds of this, I felt this really strong connection. For some reason, it was something I couldn't get over, so I kept refusing to date any other guy. Even if I did date another guy, it felt like I was really just forcing myself to.
Turns out that he was just the same. He comes from quite a very orthodox family, but even then he was refusing to be with other women.
So yes you can, but then again you can also marry our of compromise
