My girlfriend used the word "like" all the time, is there a reason?

She uses it for almost every sentence: "Like, that's great!, "Like, okay", "Like, what?".

There could be a few different reasons why your girlfriend uses "like" a lot:

- It's something a lot of girls her age do when they talk. I've noticed a lot of girls at school interject "like" randomly. Maybe it's become a habit or filler word for her.

- She could be insecure or nervous about something she's saying. Sometimes people say "like" more when they're not 100% confident in their words. It's kind of a verbal placeholder.

- It could be a regional thing depending on where you guys live. Some areas people tend to slip "like" into their speech patterns more than others.

- She might be trying to seem more casual or play it cool even if she's excited about something. The "like" makes it sound less intense somehow.

- It could just be part of her personality and how she's always talked. We all have little quirks when we speak.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you can still understand what she's saying, it's probably just habit for her. If it really bothers you, you could mention it to her casually but I'd only do that if everything else is great between you guys.

Her brother says she's talked like this since her pre teen days. A bunch of her friends do the same, I've heard quite a few of their conversations, it's a ton of likes being used. Lol

Ahh yeah man, if she's been talking like that since she was a young teen, it's definitely just a habit she picked up from her friends. When girls get to that age, they start mimicking each other's speech patterns and behaviors a lot.

It's pretty funny to think about, but I'm guessing they all just started peppering "like" into every other sentence as kids, and now it's so ingrained that they don't even realize how much they're doing it. As long as you can understand what she means most of the time, I wouldn't worry too much.

All their conversations must sound kind of ridiculous with the non-stop "likes" though, haha. I'd probably be cracking up if I overheard a whole group of them chatting. At least it shows she's comfortable around you if she talks the same way.

Just nod and smile when she goes off on one of those "like" filled rambles. No point in trying to change it now, that's just how she and her crew communicate. As long as she's not, like, super annoying about it or something!

Yeah, I have a hard time not cracking up sometimes when overhearing their conversations, sometimes I'm at the same table at a restaurant when it happens. Lol

Duuude, I can totally imagine how hard it must be not to crack up listening to them drop "like" in every other sentence! Like, I'd be bustin' a gut trying not to laugh out loud for sure.

Man, next time y'all are all at the table together, you gotta start a drinking game out of it or something. Take a shot every time one of them says "like" - you'll be trashed in no time! Or keep real subtle count on your phone and laugh your ass off showing her at the end how many times she said it. Girls love that!

Could also start replying to everything with an exaggerated "LIIIIKE, oh really? LIIIKE, no way!" just to mess with 'em. I bet they wouldn't even notice at first. Dude, please do it, I bet their faces would be so confused! You gotta record it for me if you do, that shyt would be hilarious. Their conversations are comedy gold already, might as well have some fun with it!

Some people use colloquial words to characterize themselves as inexperienced so people will estimate their age to be younger and treat them by a lower standard of judgment.

Usually people do it because the don't have good vocabulary. They use it to fill in, in place of words, or because they don't know what else to say.

Its a verbal crutch / tick and at this age its ingrained unless she makes a real effort to monitor herself. Sorry
