My girlfriend says the word "like" in almost every sentence, is there a reason why?

Almost every sentence of hers uses the word "like", sometimes even more than once, her girl friends talk the same way.

It’s a filler word, and it’s probably a habit by now, but it’s best practice to stop using it because it can sound odd or improper. I’m guessing she’s from California.. I know I used to use it when I was a teen, and teachers would try to get us to correct ourselves, especially when we used it a lot.

This sounds like a trend that was started by young people in the 80's. Talking like a "Valley Girl". this is a verbal habit that can be eliminated by concentrating on stopping yourself every time you're about to say the word. It just takes time and effort

I asked her brother once and he said she's talked like this since she was 10.

I think they have poor verbal communication skills and likely poor cognitive ability. They can't form coherent thoughts.
