Did my reaction to a guy asking me out ruin it?

I met this guy in class, I’m in college, and we talked every now and then but nothing major. At one point we were put in a group together and we were joking around and we were casually talking. At some point we’re talking about astrology and joking and he goes “are we compatible? We should go out sometime” but was laughing when he said it so I laughed and thought he was joking. After that day he started avoiding me, one of the guys in the group gave me his ig so I followed him and reached out because it weird. Long story short, he took weeks to reply and ultimately he ended up telling me he was too busy to go out. I’m really confused because he seemed like a genuinely cool guy and I would’ve wanted to go out with him.

No…I haven’t seen him in person in class since then and I’m friends with his best friend who gave me his ig to reach out to him because I was genuinely interested.
