What do you think about dating in your 40s?

I am 44 years old and have been single for quite sometime. I'm not sure if online dating is good or safe for someone my age. What do you think?

Some users on this site have the mistaken idea (and I don't know why) that online dating means finding an online buddy for flirting online. No, online dating is merely a way to meet people online, and when you are ready, you start talking on the phone, and then you schedule a place, date, and time to meet, just like a first date in real life.

Online danger can be as safe as dating in the traditional method if you observe some precautions. Yes, there will always be SOME danger in meeting someone online but there is danger in meeting someone in a bar, too. I'm in my fifties and I wouldn't have a problem with dating, I mean if I happened to meet someone to go out with that wasn't repulsive or so self-absorbed that they'd literally absorb themselves if they were to ever melt. I think the only difference is you're probably a LOT less tolerant of games and insincerity and you're a lot more goal driven. Well, I mean, that and you probably don't move as fast, or have the impulse control issues, and you probably don't drive everywhere doing 90mph or with the stereo all the way up, but other than that, and maybe the fact you no longer live with your parents, and most likely haven't for decades, it should all relatively be the same. I mean as long as you're discounting the fact that you're probably not going to want to go to a disco and drink to excess and then throw it all back up, inside your dates car, and then try to make up for it by forcing yourself on them and telling them you're sorry and that you want to kiss them to make it better, but you're so drunk you don't realize that they don't want the vomit mouth even in their car at that point, much less a portion of that mouth in their mouth... But yeah, other than that, all the same.

If I were in my 40s and single know that I'd be getting downnn. I'd be more partial to doing it the old fashioned way vs online though if you're looking for a relationship.

What do you mean online dating you mean find somebody to flirt with or just speak to people that are online actually it's a lot of fun and you can meet a lot of people just don't give anybody your personal information you have to wait things out way in advance and never give anybody your email and your phone number at the same time you just have to always be thinking that's all you'll know it when it's the right person because he'll melt you and it's fun if you're not dating physically then date online and feel that energy because it's just as beautiful or more beautiful than physical touch with the right person

It's a lonely thought to think that at some point in your life, you'll never find love or love again. And it's sad some people think that way.

But there will always be single people of every age on the planet that are looking for their person.

Everyone is living life just trying to be a little happier each day.

It’s harder it seems , especially these days with finding someone that actually wants a real relationship and not just casual sex buddies , so finding that special someone is sadly hard to come by

I would try things like it's just lunch, or an actual dating site where you have to pay money to join.
That way it helps cut down on those just looking for a one and done.
I used eHarmony and had great results.
You start our reading about someone, then communicating on the site until you feel comfortable enough to email, or call.
Then you can meet up if you so desire.
Of course, have your contact lined up in advance so you get that "important" phone call that can give you an out if necessary.
I found that lunch dates worked out well.
A lot less pressure, and if the date is going well, you have more time to spend together, if not you still have the rest of the day for yourself.

If you're meeting online, and then meeting in person, you'd want to meet in a public place at first. That being said, I think meeting through hobby related clubs or activities is probably a better bet. That way you know right off that you have something in common, through the club or activity that you are into. And odds are other people involved will know this person and give you a nay or yay...

I am 45(M), Highly introverted, highly independent. I had a romantic interest just once in my life. I feel that my lifestyle does not require dating and romance. At my age, I don't want children (my own or "imported" from another relationship). This may be a deal breaker for women and I know and respect that.
However, life has taught me one thing already: "Never say never". (I am open to chatting over DM)

Find an interest and take a class. You'll have better chance of getting on with someone if there is a single man there. Shared hobbies are much better than scraping around dating sites. And if not you'll learn something new.

Ever thought about learning how to ride a motorcycle? There were several single men in their 40's in class and always around the bike shops. If they can ride they are pretty much financial stable, and fun too.

Entertaining. Most women over forty are just angry and bitter which is why guys tend to date younger or just don't date.

Online dating is OK as long as you don't take it too serious. Don't expect more than 5% of what you see on dating apps to be quality people and you'll be fine.

I have a personal rule. I will not message women first. That clears out 90% if the riff raff right there.

Well dating in my 20s has been impossible. I don’t dating in my 30s will be any easier. Dating in my 40s wouldn’t be worth it at all. By then I’d just be living my life.

It's definitely safe because your intuition tells you who you should and shouldn't interact with.
In terms of it being good; I guess that's going to depend on what you consider to be good
