I really love the thought of marriage and responsibility and commitment and friendship and bond. But I was married once before and we got married way too early I mean just way too early at an early age and I wasn't happy and I wanted out of it and that broke her heart I mean it broke mine too but it broke hers and she totally tried to destroy me after that I mean she did anything and everything possible to make my life miserable so it would have to be a for sure thing and it would take a little bit of time but nothing drastic

I've been married twice.

My first wife... we started dating one year after we met, we worked together. I proposed to her 6 months later and we were married 10 months after that. We amicably divorced after 20 years and 3 kids.

My current wife... we started dating a week after meeting online at a dating site. I proposed 3 months later, and we were married one year later.

It takes time to plan and implement a wedding, it's usually several months between proposing and the wedding.

I would date until we both like and trust each other and have the resources and conditions ready for marriage. Right now, I am trying to match my boyfriend in income before we get married so I will not face depression or loss if our marriage ends, which could happen if he dies of old age or something happens to him etc...

I don't date to stay dating. But I date until one of two things happens.
1. we get married.
2. I can tell it's not leading to marriage, then I leave.

I was never interested in just "having a boyfriend" for the rest of my life.

It only takes me a couple weeks to know the girl's character. Then, about five years before the true person comes out. So, the answer is either two weeks or five years. I waited five years to marry my wife. But we pretty much moved in together after two weeks.

I think 2 years is a good amount of time. You mainly need to see them in multiple scenarios and test if they're going to be good for the long haul.

Many people live to be old, and you want to be sure this person will not grate your soul to oblivion by the end of your days together.

A few years so you can get past the initial stages where it could just be lust or infatuation, etc. so you can really get to see what the other person is like in many different situations. It is best if you can live together for as long as possible to learn about any bad habits they may have that are deal breakers.
