WWhy would someone be afraid of commitment?

Depends on the person. Sometimes it's not the commitment but the person who wants to commit to them. Sometimes it's too much history with that person's gender and that person is not giving them enough reason to think they're any different then others of the past.

I'd have to know HIM to answer that. But you're not that young anymore so I'm guessing neither is he. And if that be the case it increases the likelihood of the bad experience quotient.

😆 I said you were not young anymore, not ugly. How would I know if you're ugly or not. I simply meant that if you're not young anymore, he's likely not young anymore. Which means the odds are he's seen a lot more women in those years. Not all those experiences good. Meaning that gives a guy pause when a woman shows any red flags. Young guys are hormone driven. Older guys are more likely to consider the ramifications.

Sometimes commitment feels like a jail cell. Some people prefer the freedom to do what they like, not to go sleep with who they like but the freedom to go anywhere do what they want to do without the person they are with knowing what they up too, ask them to do this and that. Wanting to be with you all the time, dealing with moods and arguments.

Some people do t want to deal with all that, that comes with a commitment
